Turner Lovell is looking to recruit a HV Cable Engineer to join a growing engineering team. This is an opportunity to work on a major portfolio of high-voltage transmission projects, supporting the development of critical grid infrastructure required for the UK's energy transition. You will have exposure across the full project lifecycle, from early-stage cable system design and route development through to construction, testing and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, assess and provide technical assurance of HV underground cable systems across major infrastructure projects.
- Carry out cable engineering studies including current rating calculations, route assessments and cable system interface reviews.
- Prepare technical requirements and specifications for new cable systems and upgrades to existing infrastructure.
- Review engineering designs and technical submissions from consultants, contractors and equipment suppliers.
- Provide cable engineering support during construction, installation, testing and commissioning activities.
- Support technical assurance activities including equipment qualification, factory testing and site acceptance.
- Contribute to engineering risk assessments and resolve technical issues throughout project delivery.
- Coordinate with civil, electrical and wider engineering disciplines to ensure cable system interfaces are effectively managed.
- Ensure engineering solutions meet relevant safety, regulatory and industry requirements.
Ideal Background & Skills
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong knowledge of HV underground cable systems and their application within transmission or major power infrastructure.
- Previous experience in cable design, engineering, specification or technical assurance.
- Experience with cable rating studies and software such as CYMCAP would be highly beneficial.
- Understanding of cable installation, testing and commissioning requirements.
- Experience working with engineering consultants, contractors and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Good knowledge of relevant HV engineering standards and UK safety and regulatory requirements.
- Able to assess technical problems, challenge engineering solutions and communicate recommendations effectively.
