Electrical Engineer

Key Responsibilities

• Design and review electrical systems for solar PV installations, from residential rooftops to MW-scale commercial and industrial plants, covering DC and AC systems, inverters, protection, and cabling.
• Prepare single-line diagrams, load calculations, cable sizing, protection coordination, and earthing designs.
• Plan and execute 11kV grid interconnection works, including RMUs, switchgear, transformers, and metering.
• Prepare and submit drawings, technical documents, and approvals to the Electricity & Water Authority (EWA), the Sustainable Energy Authority (SEA), and other authorities.
• Coordinate EWA inspections, shutdowns, permits-to-work, and energization procedures.
• Carry out 11kV switching, isolation, and earthing in accordance with EWA regulations and safe systems of work.
• Supervise installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical works against approved drawings and specifications.
• Perform fault finding, troubleshooting, and preventive and corrective maintenance of electrical and PV systems.
• Support energy audits and energy efficiency projects from an electrical engineering perspective.
• Enforce HSE requirements, risk assessments, and method statements on site.
• Supervise technicians, electricians, and subcontractors, providing technical guidance.
• Review material submittals and test reports to ensure quality compliance.
• Maintain accurate records, as-built drawings, and handover documentation.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
• Valid EWA certification as an 11kV Technician or 11kV Engineer (mandatory).
• Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in electrical design, installation, or commissioning, preferably in Bahrain or the GCC.
• Sound knowledge of EWA regulations, Bahrain Electricity Supply Rules, and IEC/BS standards.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and design or simulation software (e.g., ETAP, PVsyst, Helioscope).
• Strong understanding of HV/LV protection, switchgear, transformers, and earthing systems.

Preferred

• Experience in solar PV design, installation, or grid-connected systems.
• Professional certification in solar PV or energy efficiency (e.g., NOCN Level 3 or 5 Certified Solar PV Practitioner).
• Membership in a professional body (e.g., Bahrain Society of Engineers, IEEE, IET).
• Experience with SCADA, monitoring systems, or substation commissioning.
• Valid Bahrain driving licence.

Working Conditions

• Combination of office-based and site-based work, including rooftops, substations, and outdoor environments in hot conditions.
