What they need

Electrical Engineer

Industrial Controls | Hands-On Troubleshooting | Project Leadership

Skana Aluminum | Manitowoc, WI | On-Site | Full-Time

About the Role

No two days look the same in this role. One morning, you might be updating electrical schematics for a controls upgrade. That afternoon, you’re on the production floor with a meter in hand, tracking down a drive fault or helping an operator get a line back up and running. Next week, you could be leading a planned equipment outage or managing an electrical improvement project from start to finish.

At Skana Aluminum, we’re looking for a hands-on Electrical Engineer who enjoys solving problems creatively, improving equipment reliability, and finding better ways to do things. This role combines electrical design, industrial controls, troubleshooting, and project management with the opportunity to make a direct impact on manufacturing performance.

If you enjoy working with your head and your hands, take initiative, and want to see your engineering solutions make a real difference, we want to talk to you.

What You’ll Do

Electrical Design & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify engineering opportunities to improve equipment uptime, increase production throughput, and reduce operating costs.
  • Design and update control circuits, power distribution systems, and electrical equipment improvements.
  • Create, interpret, and maintain electrical drawings and schematics to support equipment reliability and plant operations.
  • Partner with management to develop data tracking, reporting, and trending tools that measure operational performance and identify opportunities for improvement.

Hands-On Troubleshooting & Technical Support

  • Work directly with production operators and maintenance technicians to troubleshoot electrical and controls issues involving motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), PLCs, sensors, and related equipment.
  • Get hands-on when needed with equipment wiring, testing, commissioning, adjustments, and repairs.
  • Diagnose electrical faults and develop practical solutions that minimize downtime and restore production.
  • Collaborate with maintenance to engineer long-term solutions to recurring equipment problems and improve system reliability.

Project Management & Equipment Outages

  • Lead electrical engineering projects from concept through completion, including scope development, authorization for expenditure (AFE) and cost justification, scheduling, budgeting, and execution.
  • Plan and coordinate equipment outages and shutdowns, working closely with maintenance, operations, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Evaluate equipment options, coordinate with vendors and suppliers, and initiate purchase requests.
  • Drive projects forward while balancing cost, schedule, safety, quality, and production requirements.

Standards, Safety & Leadership

  • Develop, document, and maintain work instructions, procedures, and electrical safety practices within our ISO quality management system.
  • Support safe electrical work practices and compliance with applicable electrical safety standards.
  • Provide engineering leadership and serve as lead engineer for the Engineering Team when needed.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Bring

  • A creative, hands-on problem-solving mindset. You look beyond the obvious, enjoy finding better ways to do things, and want to be part of the solution.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • The ability to read, create, interpret, and troubleshoot electrical schematics.
  • Working knowledge of industrial electrical systems and controls, including motor controls, VFDs and drives, and power distribution.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis, pivot tables, and charts.
  • Project management experience, including planning, budgeting, coordinating resources, and driving projects to completion.
  • Mechanical and electrical aptitude, with the ability and willingness to work hands-on with meters, test equipment, and tools in a manufacturing environment.
  • The ability to work independently, take initiative, and communicate clearly with colleagues across the organization.

Nice to Have

  • Three or more years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing electrical engineering role.
  • Experience planning or leading equipment outages, shutdowns, or major maintenance projects.
  • PLC programming and HMI experience, particularly with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley systems.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical. We’re willing to train the right candidate.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 70E and arc flash safety practices.
  • Experience working in an ISO-certified manufacturing environment.

Who You’ll Work With

You’ll collaborate with people throughout the organization, including the President and COO, directors, production supervisors, maintenance, purchasing, and shipping and logistics. You’ll also work with outside vendors, suppliers, and contractors to evaluate equipment, execute projects, and implement improvements.

This role offers direct interaction with leadership and the opportunity to partner with the people who keep our production equipment running every day. Your ideas and technical expertise will help shape how we maintain, improve, and operate our manufacturing systems.

Work Environment

  • A combination of office-based engineering work and hands-on time on the production floor.
  • Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required on the production floor.
  • Travel of up to approximately 10% may be required for vendor visits, equipment evaluations, and acceptance activities.

What We Offer

At Skana Aluminum, we believe in supporting our employees both on and off the job. Our benefits include:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Accident insurance.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with a company match of 50% on the first 4% of employee contributions.
  • Paid time off and paid holidays after 30 days of employment.
  • Annual safety shoe reimbursement of up to $150.
  • Paid prescription safety glasses.
  • Quarterly discretionary bonus program.

Ready to Make an Impact?

If you enjoy troubleshooting complex electrical systems, improving industrial controls, leading meaningful projects, and seeing your solutions make a measurable difference, we’d love to hear from you.
