What they need

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Electrical Engineer with strong technical knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems, particularly HVAC and plumbing systems, along with expertise in estimation and quantity surveying.

The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of electrical engineering principles and practical knowledge of HVAC systems, plumbing installations, and related MEP works. The candidate must be capable of reviewing technical drawings, preparing accurate cost estimates, conducting quantity take-offs, preparing BOQs, and supporting the tendering and project execution processes.

This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, the ability to coordinate with consultants, contractors, and suppliers, and the capability to prepare competitive and commercially viable estimates for MEP projects.

Key Responsibilities

  1. MEP Estimation and Quantity Take-Offs
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for electrical, HVAC, and plumbing works based on project drawings, specifications, BOQs, and tender documents.
  • Conduct accurate quantity take-offs for materials, equipment, labour, and other project requirements.
  • Prepare and review Bills of Quantities (BOQs), material take-offs, and cost breakdowns.
  • Analyse tender documents, drawings, specifications, and scope of work to identify project requirements.
  • Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Prepare rate analyses, cost comparisons, and detailed estimation sheets.
  • Calculate material, labour, equipment, installation, and subcontracting costs.
  • Identify discrepancies, missing information, and potential cost risks in tender documents.
  • Prepare tender submissions and assist in commercial negotiations when required.
  • Maintain estimation records, supplier databases, and cost information for future reference.
  1. HVAC Systems
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of HVAC systems, including air conditioning, ventilation, and exhaust systems.
  • Review HVAC layouts, equipment schedules, ducting drawings, piping layouts, and related technical documents.
  • Carry out quantity take-offs for ductwork, chilled water piping, refrigerant piping, insulation, dampers, diffusers, grilles, and HVAC equipment.
  • Understand HVAC equipment such as AHUs, FCUs, FAHUs, ventilation fans, exhaust fans, and other associated components.
  • Review HVAC material specifications and assist in selecting suitable materials and equipment in accordance with project requirements.
  • Coordinate with HVAC contractors, suppliers, consultants, and project teams for technical and commercial clarifications.
  1. Plumbing and Drainage Systems
  • Demonstrate good knowledge of domestic water supply, drainage, sewerage, and plumbing systems.
  • Review plumbing drawings, water supply layouts, drainage layouts, isometric drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Conduct quantity take-offs for pipes, fittings, valves, sanitary fixtures, pumps, water heaters, and other plumbing materials.
  • Understand hot and cold water distribution, soil and waste systems, stormwater drainage, and associated plumbing installations.
  • Estimate the cost of plumbing materials, equipment, labour, and installation works.
  • Review plumbing specifications and ensure that estimates reflect the required materials, standards, and project scope.
  1. Electrical Engineering and MEP Coordination
  • Review electrical drawings, layouts, single-line diagrams, load schedules, lighting layouts, and power distribution systems.
  • Prepare quantity take-offs and cost estimates for electrical installations, including cables, conduits, cable trays, distribution boards, lighting fixtures, and accessories.
  • Understand electrical systems and their coordination with HVAC, plumbing, and other building services.
  • Identify potential clashes or discrepancies between electrical, HVAC, and plumbing drawings.
  • Coordinate with design, procurement, estimation, and project execution teams to ensure accurate project costing.
  1. Technical Documentation and Project Support
  • Review tender drawings, specifications, material submittals, and other technical documents.
  • Prepare technical queries, clarification requests, and estimation-related documentation.
  • Assist in preparing material comparison sheets, subcontractor comparisons, and procurement cost analyses.
  • Support the project team during the handover from estimation to execution.
  • Maintain accurate records of project estimates, quotations, BOQs, and revisions.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable project specifications, UAE regulations, and relevant authority requirements.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Relevant experience in MEP contracting, building services, estimation, or quantity surveying.
  • Strong practical knowledge of HVAC and plumbing systems, with the ability to estimate associated works independently.
  • Experience in preparing BOQs, quantity take-offs, cost estimates, and tender submissions.
  • Ability to read and interpret MEP drawings, technical specifications, and tender documents.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimation software.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD for reviewing drawings and measuring quantities.
  • Familiarity with UAE construction practices, material pricing, and local authority requirements is preferred.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication, coordination, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tenders or projects simultaneously.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in estimating HVAC and plumbing works for residential, commercial, retail, or industrial projects.
  • Knowledge of HVAC equipment selection, duct sizing concepts, piping systems, and plumbing materials.
  • Experience in obtaining supplier and subcontractor quotations and preparing commercial comparisons.
  • Ability to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or technical compliance.
  • Familiarity with UAE standards and authority requirements, including relevant DEWA, Dubai Municipality, and other applicable approvals.
  • Experience using AutoCAD, advanced Excel functions, and MEP estimation tools.
