What they need
About the Company
Fontes is recruiting on behalf of a Singapore-based deep-tech company that designs and operates hovering-class autonomous underwater vehicles used to inspect and safeguard subsea infrastructure across the maritime, energy and defence sectors. Their systems are delivered through a robotics-as-a-service model and are built on years of hands-on operational experience in demanding offshore waters. The mission is to give asset owners a dependable way to manage the integrity of the infrastructure they rely on, while sharply cutting the emissions of conventional inspection methods.
Why Join Us
The industries my client serves need new ways to work through their toughest challenges, and they are focused on delivering exactly that. None of it is easy, which is why they look for outstanding people. Their multi-disciplinary team is close-knit and united by a genuine enthusiasm for bold engineering, and it does its best work in dynamic settings. How far you go here depends on the goals you set: joining a fast-growing start-up means exposure to the full arc of deep-tech, from early design through to commercialisation.
You will enjoy this role if you:
● Thrive in a fast-moving start-up and value long-term growth over short-term wins
● Work well both independently and alongside colleagues in other sub-teams
● Learn quickly and stay curious in the face of new problems
● Take pride in product design and are always looking for ways to make things better
● Can weigh risk and make time-sensitive calls in imperfect conditions
Your Role
As an Electrical Engineer you will work closely and frequently with the mechanical and software teams on both product development and production design work, reporting to the Electrical Lead and the CTO.
Job Scope
● Design and build sub-components for my client's hovering-class autonomous underwater vehicles
● Develop the PCBs for the electronics that interface with, operate and control the vehicles
● Design power electronics for a range of system components, sensors and actuator systems
● Produce wire-harness and cabling designs, including 2D and 3D production drawings
● Write firmware for microcontrollers such as Atmega and ARM for real-time control of hardware
● Bench-test and field-test key sensors and components ahead of integration into the vehicles
● Run extensive bench and in-water testing of the vehicles and document how they perform
● Stress-test components for harsh-environment operation — thermal, vibration, EMI-EMC and humidity
● Gather user requirements together with the management team and end customers
Desired Qualities
● A Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering or equivalent
● 0-3 years designing and implementing the electrical architecture of robotic systems
● Experience with battery-powered designs, embedded systems, microcontrollers, and sensor and actuator interfacing
● Experience with low-voltage power electronics for battery-powered systems (regulation, boost/buck conversion, protection, load balancing and the like)
● Hands-on experience with Altium Designer or comparable PCB CAD tools
● Experience with 2D schematic, wire-harness and cable-assembly design software
● Proficiency in C++ for embedded systems programming and development
● Python knowledge is a plus for higher-level interfacing and algorithm work
● Experience with Git and version control
● Familiarity with QC and test procedures such as EMI-EMC, vibration, temperature and humidity testing is a plus
Remuneration Package
● Market-competitive salary
● Growth opportunities tied to the impact you make, rather than a fixed corporate ladder
● ESOP / equity participation
● Healthcare support
● Special access to industry events
● Support for skills upgrading and learning credits
● A well-stocked pantry with good snacks
Prior to your interview, please prepare:
● A testimonial from one other engineer who has worked with you
● A PCB design from a previous project
