Electrical Engineer (Project-Based)

We are seeking a qualified Electrical Engineer to support the design, construction, testing, and commissioning of utility-scale renewable energy projects, including solar PV, wind, and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facilities. Reporting to the Senior Electrical Engineer, the successful candidate will provide technical support for electrical engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring compliance with applicable engineering standards, grid requirements, and Company specifications.

The role requires close collaboration with multidisciplinary project teams, consultants, contractors, the Owner's Engineer, and utility stakeholders to support the successful delivery of renewable energy projects.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Design and Technical Support

• Support the preparation and review of electrical designs for renewable energy facilities, including medium-voltage (MV) and high-voltage (HV) systems, substations, transformers, switchgear, inverters, collection systems, grounding, lighting, and auxiliary power systems.

• Review electrical drawings, single-line diagrams (SLDs), cable schedules, equipment layouts, protection philosophies, and technical specifications for compliance with project requirements and applicable standards.

• Assist in performing or reviewing electrical system studies, including load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, voltage drop, grounding, and arc flash analyses.

• Coordinate with engineering consultants and the Owner's Engineer during design reviews and technical evaluations.

Construction and Commissioning Support

• Provide engineering support during construction by reviewing Requests for Information (RFIs), shop drawings, material submittals, and method statements.

• Conduct site inspections to verify that electrical installations comply with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, and project schedules.

• Assist in resolving technical issues encountered during construction and recommend practical engineering solutions in coordination with the Senior Electrical Engineer.

• Support factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), pre-commissioning, commissioning, energization, and grid synchronization activities.

• Review testing reports, punch lists, and as-built documentation.

Grid Compliance and Technical Coordination

• Support compliance with utility interconnection requirements, applicable grid codes, and project technical specifications.

• Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and relevant stakeholders to facilitate technical reviews and engineering coordination.

• Assist in preparing engineering documentation required for permitting, utility submissions, and project approvals.

• Participate in engineering coordination meetings and provide updates on electrical engineering activities.

Procurement and Contractor Support

• Assist in preparing technical specifications, equipment data sheets, and Bills of Materials (BOM) for electrical systems.

• Review contractor and supplier technical submittals for transformers, switchgear, inverters, protection relays, cables, SCADA equipment, and other electrical components.

• Support procurement and project teams during technical bid evaluations and equipment selection.

• Monitor contractor compliance with approved electrical designs, installation standards, and project specifications.

Quality, Safety, and Compliance

• Ensure electrical engineering activities comply with applicable Philippine regulations, project specifications, and recognized international standards, including IEC, IEEE, PEC, and relevant utility requirements.

• Support Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) inspections, testing, and documentation.

• Coordinate with HSE personnel to promote safe work practices during electrical installation, testing, and commissioning.

• Participate in technical risk assessments, constructability reviews, and value engineering initiatives.

Documentation and Reporting

• Maintain organized engineering records, design revisions, inspection reports, testing documentation, and as-built drawings.

• Prepare periodic engineering progress reports and technical updates for the Senior Electrical Engineer and project management.

• Assist in preparing project close-out documentation, lessons learned, and technical reports.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.

• Registered Electrical Engineer (REE) license is required. Professional Electrical Engineer (PEE) registration is an advantage.

Experience

• At least three (3) to five (5) years of electrical engineering experience, preferably involving renewable energy, power generation, substations, transmission, or industrial infrastructure projects.

• Experience supporting utility-scale solar PV, wind, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), substations, or transmission line projects is preferred.

• Experience working with EPC contractors, Owners' Engineers, utilities, or engineering consultants is an advantage.

Technical Knowledge

• Working knowledge of utility-scale renewable energy electrical systems, including MV and HV distribution systems, substations, transformers, switchgear, inverters, protection systems, grounding, and SCADA.

• Familiarity with electrical system studies, including load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, grounding, and arc flash analysis.

• Basic understanding of utility interconnection requirements, testing and commissioning procedures, and grid compliance.

• Knowledge of the Philippine Electrical Code (PEC), IEC, IEEE, and applicable utility engineering standards.

Software Skills

• Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications.

• Working knowledge of ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, EasyPower, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar electrical engineering software is preferred.

• Familiarity with PVsyst, PVcase, Helioscope, or equivalent renewable energy design software is an advantage.

• Basic knowledge of SCADA systems, RTUs, protection relays, and industrial communication protocols such as Modbus and DNP3 is desirable.

Skills and Competencies

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting utility-scale renewable energy projects, including Solar PV, Wind, or Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

• Exposure to testing and commissioning of MV, HV, and grid-connected electrical systems.

• Experience supporting utility interconnection processes and renewable energy project commissioning.

• Previous experience with Independent Power Producers (IPPs), Owners' Engineers, EPC contractors, or engineering consultants is an advantage.
