Help Power New Zealand's Clean Energy Future

At Lightforce, we're passionate about accelerating New Zealand's transition to clean, renewable energy. As one of New Zealand's established solar energy businesses, we design and deliver innovative solar, battery storage, and energy solutions for residential, commercial, and large-scale projects nationwide.

Due to continued growth, we're looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer with expertise in Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to join our Engineering team in Auckland.

If you're motivated by challenging projects, emerging technologies, and making a real impact in the renewable energy sector, we'd love to hear from you.

About the Role

As an Electrical Engineer, you'll play a critical role in the design, delivery, and optimisation of commercial and utility-scale solar and battery storage projects.

You'll take ownership of engineering outcomes from concept through to commissioning, working closely with internal teams, contractors, suppliers, and customers to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest technical standards.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys combining technical expertise with practical project delivery in a fast-growing industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and review electrical systems for solar PV and BESS projects.
  • Prepare and maintain electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, layouts, and technical documentation.
  • Perform electrical calculations, system studies, and design reports.
  • Support equipment selection, including switchgear, transformers, protection systems, inverters, and battery systems.
  • Provide engineering support throughout construction, commissioning, and operational phases.
  • Respond to technical queries and RFIs in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist with performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and fault investigations.
  • Collaborate with the Commercial Business Development team by providing technical input for tenders and proposals.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to installation teams, sales staff, and junior team members.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and project delivery functions.

About You

To be successful in this role, you'll have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 3-5 years' experience working with solar PV and battery storage systems.
  • Experience with electrical infrastructure, grid connections, protection systems, and switchgear.
  • Proven experience delivering electrical designs within renewable energy, energy infrastructure, industrial, or utility projects.
  • Strong knowledge of solar panels, inverters, battery technologies, and energy management systems.
  • Sound understanding of New Zealand electrical standards, codes, and compliance requirements relating to solar installations.
  • Experience using industry software such as AutoCAD, PVsyst, Aurora Solar, and other design and modelling tools.
  • Exposure to Dynamics, Simpro, or similar business systems will be advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with stakeholders.
  • Applicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand or be close to obtaining work rights.

Why Join Lightforce?

  • Join a growing company at the forefront of New Zealand's renewable energy sector.
  • Work on impactful commercial and utility-scale solar and battery projects.
  • Be part of a collaborative and supportive team culture.
  • Professional development and career growth opportunities.
  • Contribute to a more sustainable future for New Zealand
