Electrical Engineering Manager

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineering Manager to lead an electrical engineering design team within a major project engineering office, overseeing the design and delivery of a diverse portfolio of capital projects.

This role will be responsible for managing electrical engineering resources, ensuring high-quality technical deliverables, and delivering projects in line with agreed scope, schedules, budgets, and industry standards.

Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, procurement, construction, and operations, you will drive engineering excellence, standardize design practices, and ensure effective coordination throughout the project lifecycle, from initial planning and design through construction and commissioning.

The successful candidate will combine strong electrical engineering expertise with proven team leadership and experience delivering complex capital projects within an engineering consultancy, EPC contractor, or owner-operator environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Engineering Team Leadership: Lead and manage an electrical engineering design team comprising engineers, designers, and drafters, ensuring effective resource allocation, performance management, and technical development.
• Project Delivery: Oversee electrical engineering deliverables across a portfolio of capital projects, ensuring work is completed to the required quality standards, within agreed budgets and schedules.
• Engineering Design: Provide technical oversight of electrical engineering design activities, ensuring fit-for-purpose solutions across projects of varying size and complexity.
• Execution Strategy: Develop project scopes, engineering execution plans, resource requirements, and delivery strategies to support efficient project execution.
• Technical Standards & Compliance: Ensure consistent application of relevant electrical codes, engineering standards, design specifications, and industry best practices.
• Multidisciplinary Coordination: Work closely with other engineering disciplines to ensure design integration, resolve technical interfaces, and maintain alignment across project deliverables.
• Resource Planning: Assess team capacity, forecast future resource requirements, and adjust team structures to support changing project priorities and workload.
• Quality Assurance: Establish and maintain engineering processes, systems, software tools, and quality assurance procedures, including technical reviews and compliance audits.
• Project Controls: Oversee electrical engineering budgets, schedules, deliverable tracking, and progress reporting, identifying risks and implementing corrective actions where required.
• Construction & Commissioning Support: Collaborate with procurement, construction, and operations teams to ensure designs are practical, buildable, and aligned with installation and commissioning requirements.
• Risk Management & Safety: Contribute to project risk assessments, design reviews, and engineering safety initiatives, ensuring potential technical and execution risks are identified and managed.
• Continuous Improvement: Develop and implement standardized engineering procedures, lessons learned, and best practices to improve consistency, efficiency, and technical quality across projects.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline, with at least 10 years of engineering experience.
• Alternatively: A master's degree in an appropriate engineering discipline, with at least eight years of engineering experience.
• Demonstrated experience managing electrical engineering design teams responsible for large-scale or complex capital projects.
• Strong technical expertise in electrical engineering design, including the development, review, and delivery of engineering documentation and design packages.
• Proven ability to lead engineers, designers, and drafters, including resource planning, mentoring, performance management, and capability development.
• Experience developing project scopes, engineering execution strategies, budgets, schedules, and resource plans.
• Strong understanding of engineering codes, technical standards, quality assurance processes, and design governance.
• Experience coordinating electrical engineering deliverables with other engineering disciplines and project stakeholders.
• Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple projects while maintaining technical quality and delivery commitments.
• Strong understanding of project controls, engineering management systems, and design review processes.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

• Previous experience as an Electrical Engineering Manager, Electrical Engineering Department Manager, or similar senior engineering leadership professional.
• Experience working within an engineering consultancy, EPC contractor, or major project design office.
• Involvement in the full project lifecycle, from concept development and detailed engineering through procurement, construction, commissioning, and operational handover.
• Experience supporting mining, mineral processing, metallurgy, or bulk material handling facilities.
• Practical field experience supporting construction, installation, commissioning, or troubleshooting of electrical systems.
• Advanced knowledge of engineering design systems, project controls, technical standards, and engineering quality management.
• Demonstrated success implementing engineering best practices, improving team performance, and standardizing technical deliverables across a project portfolio.
• Experience integrating electrical engineering activities with procurement, construction, and commissioning teams.
