This role accelerates program execution by bringing critical lab and bench capabilities in-house, including PCB rework, soldering, cable assembly, test setup, and hardware troubleshooting. The R&D Lab Technician executes test methods, collects and documents data, supports fixture and bench build-up, and partners closely with engineers to improve test efficiency, product reliability, and overall development throughput.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform PCB rework, board bring-up, and basic PCB debug under engineering guidance.
  • Build and modify custom cables, harnesses, and electro-mechanical prototypes for R&D testing.
  • Operate and maintain electrical lab equipment (oscilloscopes, bench power supplies, DMMs, LCR meters, logic analyzers, etc.).
  • Execute verification and characterization tests for hardware, subassemblies, and systems.
  • Collect, organize, and report test data with clear traceability and documentation.
  • Support development, refinement, and execution of test methods, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Build, maintain, and improve test fixtures, benches, and prototype test boards.
  • Assist with failure investigation and root-cause activities for lab, manufacturing, and sustaining issues.
  • Coordinate lab materials and logistics, including part ordering, inventory support, and test sample readiness.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and compliant lab environment aligned with quality system requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics Technology, or related field; equivalent hands-on experience considered.
  • 3+ years of hands-on electronics lab technician experience in R&D, medical device, or regulated product development environments preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong soldering and rework skills (through-hole, fine-pitch SMT, connectors, and cable terminations).
  • Practical experience with PCB-level troubleshooting and debug fundamentals.
  • Proficiency operating standard electrical bench equipment and interpreting results.
  • Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and assembly drawings.
  • Experience creating custom cables and supporting electro-mechanical test assemblies.
  • Strong execution discipline for test procedures, data capture, and technical documentation.
  • Effective cross-functional communication and collaboration skills.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to support multiple programs in parallel.
