What they need

Electrical Estimator – R.D. Jukes & Co. (Part of Ventro Group)

Up to £60,000 DOE

Full-time, permanent | Office-based in Walsall (relocating to a new Oldbury site within six months), with travel to project and client sites

About Ventro Group

Ventro Group is a leading fire safety and building compliance business, backed by private equity investment from KLAR Partners. Through our brands (Ventro, Firntec, HJS and RD Jukes) we deliver fire protection, fire alarm, fire door, façade and electrical services across the UK. We are growing fast and investing in our people.

The Role

We are looking for an accurate, commercially minded Electrical Estimator to join R.D. Jukes & Co., our electrical contracting business, based in Walsall and relocating to a new Oldbury site within six months. The focus of the role is pricing variations to keep contract claims and client payments moving, while supporting the Senior Estimator across live projects and new opportunities. You may have worked as an Electrical Estimator, Estimator, Cost Estimator, Commercial Estimator or Quantity Surveyor.

As Electrical Estimator, you will:

  • Cost electrical variations that have been agreed in principle but not yet fully priced, producing detailed, itemised breakdowns that are accurate, timely and ready for client approval and claim processing
  • Prioritise a high-volume variation workload to keep fewer than 20 variations awaiting cost at any time, with clear progress updates
  • Work with Project Managers to confirm variation scope and commercial context, and liaise with the Commercial Manager so claims are processed efficiently
  • Carry out quantity take-offs and prepare detailed estimates for technical infrastructure, switchgear, distribution, power, lighting and related support works
  • Build up costs from labour rates, material pricing, supplier and subcontractor quotations, preliminaries, overheads and margin, reviewing drawings and specifications to flag assumptions, exclusions, risks and opportunities
  • Value engineer designs to optimise margin while maintaining compliance, quality and competitiveness
  • Support tender submissions, commercial proposals and bid strategy, preparing tender summaries, write-ups and quotations
  • Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations, and maintain accurate estimating records in line with company systems

What We’re Looking For

  • At least five years’ electrical estimating experience, with strong cost build-up from labour rates, material pricing, supplier and subcontractor quotes, preliminaries, overheads and margin
  • Accurate quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications, with confident interpretation of specs and contract information
  • Strong Excel skills for cost modelling and take-offs
  • Able to prioritise a high-volume workload of time-sensitive variations and work accurately to critical deadlines
  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent) and a full UK driving licence
  • A clear, professional communicator with Project Managers, commercial colleagues, clients, suppliers and subcontractors, comfortable presenting transparent, itemised cost build-ups
  • Experience in variation costing, contract claims and value engineering, and knowledge of technical infrastructure, switchgear, distribution or power systems, are a plus
  • Experience with Trimble estimating software and project management platforms such as Monday.com is welcome but not essential

You don’t need the exact title “Electrical Estimator”. Many of our best people came from estimating, quantity surveying or commercial roles across electrical, fire and security, mechanical, building services or wider construction.
