The Opportunity:

BCS Automation is seeking an experienced Electrical Field Engineer. In this role, you will coordinate and deliver planned and unscheduled service for BCS customers, provide remote and on-site technical support, and help strengthen BCS' service capability across Canada. This opportunity is suited to a resourceful, client-focused problem solver who can work with a high degree of independence; exercising their own judgement, relying on technical expertise and travel as service needs require.

Why join BCS:

At BCS, you’ll support projects that have real-world impact, from marine automation work tied to Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy and Arctic sovereignty efforts to custom industrial solutions for customers in the cement and manufacturing sectors. The work is diverse, technically interesting, and offers exposure to complex projects across multiple industries.

As Canada continues to invest in shipbuilding, industrial modernization, and critical infrastructure, the marine and industrial automation sectors are positioned for strong growth. This role offers the opportunity to build valuable experience in an industry with expanding demand and long-term career potential.

Your Role:

  • Receive and assess customer service requests, including urgency, technical requirements and the appropriate remote or on-site response
  • Work with the Director of Project and Resource Management to prioritize requests and coordinate service schedules, personnel and customer site visits
  • Communicate service timing, progress and status to customers and internal stakeholders
  • Provide remote troubleshooting and technical support
  • Travel to customer sites to survey, troubleshoot, repair, recommission and support the installation and start-up of industrial and marine electrical control systems
  • Minimize customer downtime and verify that systems operate as intended before completing service work
  • Escalate complex technical issues to the appropriate engineering or project personnel
  • Develop and coordinate a network of qualified service subcontractors across Canada to improve service coverage and response times
  • Prepare complete service reports documenting testing, findings, repairs, parts used, deficiencies, system changes and recommended follow-up actions
  • Complete required time, expense and service records, and track outstanding service items through to completion
  • Ensure drawings, programs, software revisions and other technical records are properly updated and maintained
  • Assist with factory acceptance testing and commissioning preparation when working in Belleville
  • Maintain the organization of service tools, equipment, spare parts and technical records
  • Develop and improve service and quality assurance procedures, checklists, troubleshooting resources, preventive maintenance plans and spare-parts strategies
  • Identify recurring field issues, non-conformances and provide feedback to Engineering and Manufacturing to improve quality assurance, system reliability, documentation, serviceability and future project execution

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation or a related discipline; or diploma with equivalent technical experience will also be considered
  • Minimum ten years of relevant experience in electrical field service, industrial automation, commissioning or control system design and troubleshooting
  • Strong working knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, motor controls, industrial networks and instrumentation
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings, schematics, control narratives, technical specifications and software programs
  • Experience supporting installation, start-up, commissioning and factory or site acceptance testing
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently in field environments
  • Excellent client service and communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues and manage customer expectations
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to coordinate multiple service requests, changing priorities and site visits
  • Ability to prepare accurate service reports, time and expense records, and revision-controlled technical documentation
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly for planned and unscheduled service assignments

Experience That Will Put You Ahead:

  • Marine, shipboard, cement or other industrial field-service experience
