Fire Panel Technician – Sydney / South Coast

Guardian Safety Solutions Pty Ltd is seeking a full-time Fire Panel Technician to join our growing New South Wales team, servicing clients across Sydney, the South Coast and regional NSW.

We’re looking for an experienced fire technician with strong knowledge of fire detection and alarm systems, fire indicator panels (FIPs), programming and fault finding.

While fire detection and panel work will be a key focus of this position, this is a multi-skilled fire technician role, and the successful applicant will also be required to carry out routine inspection, testing and servicing of a broad range of fire protection equipment.

A current electrical licence is not essential, however it would be highly regarded.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Service, test, fault-find and repair fire detection and alarm systems.

  • Diagnose and rectify faults on Fire Indicator Panels (FIPs), detection loops, field devices and associated equipment.

  • Carry out fire panel replacements, upgrades and system modifications.

  • Assist with fire detection installations, extensions and upgrade projects.

  • Perform system testing including cause-and-effect and interface testing.

  • Test interfaces between fire alarm systems and other building services, including mechanical shutdowns, EWIS/OWS, lifts, security and other essential services.

  • Investigate intermittent and complex fire alarm faults and provide practical rectification recommendations.

  • Carry out routine inspection, testing and servicing of fire protection equipment in accordance with AS 1851 and other applicable Australian Standards.

  • Service and inspect equipment including portable fire extinguishers, fire hose reels, fire hydrants, emergency and exit lighting, fire doors and other fire safety systems and equipment.

  • Identify defects and non-compliances and provide clear recommendations for rectification.

  • Maintain accurate service reports, programming records and commissioning documentation.

  • Liaise directly with clients, facility managers and other contractors while onsite.

  • Travel throughout Sydney, the South Coast and regional NSW as required.

What We’re Looking For

  • Previous experience working as a Fire Alarm Technician, Fire Panel Technician, Fire Service Technician or similar role.

  • Strong experience with fire detection and alarm systems and Fire Indicator Panels.

  • Experience programming and fault-finding across multiple fire panel brands would be highly regarded.

  • Experience carrying out routine servicing of portable fire equipment, hose reels, hydrants, emergency and exit lighting and other fire protection equipment.

  • Good understanding of AS 1670.1, AS 1851 and other relevant Australian Standards.

  • Ability to read drawings, zone block plans, cause-and-effect documentation and system schematics.

  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of jobs from investigation through to completion.

  • Good communication skills and a professional approach when dealing with clients.

  • Current Australian driver’s licence.

  • Willingness to travel throughout Sydney, the South Coast and regional NSW when required.

  • NSW Electrical Licence is not essential but would be a strong advantage.

Experience with systems such as Notifier, Ampac, Pertronic, Tyco/MX, Taktis or similar platforms would be highly regarded. Manufacturer-specific training is also an advantage; however, further training can be provided for the right applicant.

What We Offer

At Guardian Safety Solutions, we believe in supporting our people and giving experienced technicians the opportunity to develop their skills across a broad range of systems and projects.

  • Competitive salary based on experience and capabilities.
  • Company vehicle, tools and mobile phone provided.
  • Ongoing manufacturer and technical training.
  • Opportunities to develop further skills in fire panel programming, fault finding and commissioning.
  • Exposure to a wide variety of fire alarm systems and manufacturers.
  • Mix of fire panel work, general fire servicing, fault finding, upgrades, commissioning and project work.
  • Work across Sydney, the South Coast and regional NSW.
  • Supportive national team with opportunities to work on larger projects and contracts.
  • Diverse client base including healthcare, councils, schools, aged care, industrial and commercial facilities.

If you’re an experienced fire technician who enjoys fire panels, programming and fault finding, but is also comfortable carrying out general fire equipment servicing, we’d like to hear from you.
