What they need

Yes. For an HVAC Electrical Foreman for Oil & Gas buildings, I would make the requirements more stringent than a normal commercial HVAC electrician. The person needs to understand HVAC power, controls, hazardous areas, Oil & Gas HSE, PTW/LOTO, testing and commissioning, and coordination with mechanical/HVAC teams.

HVAC Electrical Foreman – Oil & Gas Buildings

Position: HVAC Electrical Foreman
Industry: Oil & Gas / EPC
Reports to: Electrical Engineer / Project Manager / Site Manager

Key Responsibilities

  1. HVAC Electrical Installation
  • Supervise electrical installation for AHUs, FAHUs, FCUs, exhaust/supply fans, pumps, package units, condensing units and other HVAC equipment.
  • Install power and control cables, conduits, cable trays and supports.
  • Carry out cable glanding, termination, dressing and tagging.
  • Install and connect HVAC control panels, starters, VFDs, isolators and local control stations.
  • Coordinate HVAC electrical works with mechanical installation and controls/BMS teams.
  1. Oil & Gas Requirements
  • Understand hazardous-area classifications and requirements.
  • Work with Ex-rated equipment, glands, junction boxes, isolators and electrical accessories where applicable.
  • Understand equipment protection concepts such as Ex d / Ex e / Ex ia where relevant to the project.
  • Ensure correct installation according to approved drawings, project specifications and applicable Oil & Gas standards.
  • Understand earthing and bonding requirements.
  • Verify cable glands and termination arrangements for hazardous-area equipment.
  1. Testing & Commissioning
  • Perform/assist with:

    • Continuity testing
    • Insulation resistance testing
    • Earth continuity
    • Motor rotation checks
    • Control circuit testing
    • Interlock testing
    • VFD checks
    • HVAC equipment functional testing
  • Assist the commissioning engineer with start-up and troubleshooting.

  • Record test results and close punch-list items.

  • Stop unsafe work and report hazards immediately.
  • Maintain good housekeeping.
  1. Manpower Supervision
  • Allocate work to electricians and helpers.
  • Check daily productivity and workmanship.
  • Monitor manpower attendance.
  • Coordinate daily activities with the HVAC/mechanical foreman.
  • Ensure work is completed according to the project schedule.
  • Report manpower/material shortages to the Site Engineer.
  1. Documentation
The Foreman should be capable of maintaining:
