Job Overview

We are seeking a motivated and safety-conscious Electrical Groundsman to join our dynamic team. In this vital role, you will support electrical construction and maintenance projects, focusing on high-voltage and low-voltage systems within the energy and utilities sector. Your expertise will help ensure the safe and efficient installation, repair, and inspection of electrical infrastructure, including power line systems, transformers, and utility electrical systems. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work outdoors on power distribution projects, utilizing your skills in electrical diagnostics, rigging, and field service operations to contribute to critical energy infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of high-voltage electrical wiring, transformers, and overhead line systems in accordance with safety procedures and industry standards such as NEC (National Electrical Code).
• Support power line construction projects by performing rigging tasks, climbing utility poles or structures safely using climbing gear, and operating bucket trucks or bucket operation equipment.
• Conduct electrical field testing using voltmeters, ohmmeters, and other diagnostic tools to identify faults or issues within utility electrical systems.
• Aid in the setup and operation of electrical cabling, conduit installation, and cable routing for power distribution systems.
• Perform utility locating to identify underground cables or lines before excavation or construction activities.
• Follow strict safety procedures for high-voltage work, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), adherence to electrical safety procedures, and safe climbing practices.
• Assist with relay testing, electrical blueprint reading, and troubleshooting electrical problems during field service operations.
• Support outdoor work activities such as tree trimming around power lines while maintaining safety standards for high-voltage environments.
• Participate in construction site activities related to power line construction projects while ensuring compliance with all safety regulations.
• Maintain detailed records of work performed, including incident reports, shift logs, and inspection checklists.

Experience

• Proven experience working in the energy & utilities sector with a focus on high-voltage electrical wiring and power distribution systems.
• Hands-on experience with industrial or commercial electrician tasks such as electrical diagnostics, wiring installations, and system troubleshooting.
• Skilled in rigging operations, climbing utility poles or structures safely, and operating bucket trucks or aerial lifts.
• Knowledge of electrical blueprint reading and utility locating techniques for underground cables.
• Familiarity with safety procedures for high-voltage work including PPE use, climbing protocols, and outdoor work environments.
• Experience working on power line construction projects or similar outdoor electrical infrastructure initiatives.
• Proficiency with testing equipment such as voltmeters and ohmmeters for electrical field testing purposes.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings like blueprints related to utility electrical systems and transformers.
• Prior experience in the installation or maintenance of overhead line systems or high-voltage electrical systems is highly desirable.
