What they need

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS’ expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions supports critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Power, Interconnect & Test Manager to join our Space Electrical Engineering team located in Englewood, CO. We are looking for an experienced electrical engineering leader with expertise in spacecraft electrical power systems, interconnect design, integration, and test who thrives in a fast-paced Research and Development (R&D) environment.

The successful candidate will report to the Senior Manager of Space Electrical Engineering and will lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for the architecture, design, development, integration, verification, and test of electrical power and interconnect systems for small satellites, spacecraft, space-based optical communications, advanced aerospace and electro-optic sensors, nuclear thermal propulsion, and other disruptive space and defense technologies in GA-EMS’ expanding product portfolio.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead electrical power, interconnect, integration, and test engineering activities from concept development through production, integration, test, and delivery.
  • Manage technical objectives, schedules, staffing, budgets, resources, and performance for assigned programs.
  • Oversee spacecraft power architectures, including power generation, energy storage, distribution, conditioning, protection, switching, monitoring, and control.
  • Direct the design and development of electrical schematics, harnesses, cable assemblies, connectors, backshells, grounding, bonding, shielding, and installation hardware.
  • Lead engineering analysis, fabrication, hardware integration, troubleshooting, qualification, environmental, and acceptance testing.
  • Develop test strategies, procedures, equipment requirements, verification methods, and automated test systems.
  • Coordinate requirements, interfaces, design solutions, and test criteria with systems engineering, program management, and other technical disciplines.
  • Ensure designs meet mission, reliability, radiation, thermal, vibration, shock, EMC, contamination, materials, and other space-environment requirements.
  • Review and approve technical documentation, including requirements, analyses, schematics, interface documents, test procedures, reports, and configuration-controlled records.
  • Lead anomaly investigations, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and nonconformance resolution.
  • Represent the organization as a technical contact with customers, government representatives, suppliers, and senior external stakeholders.
  • Support technical reviews, proposals, business development, engineering process improvements, and the hiring and development of technical talent.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

We recognize and appreciate the value and contributions of individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences and welcome all qualified individuals to apply.

Job Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • Typically requires a Bachelors, Masters or PhD in engineering or a related technical field as well as eleven or more years of progressively complex engineering experience. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • Spacecraft, aerospace, defense, or other high-reliability electrical hardware development.
  • Electrical power system architecture, design, analysis, integration, and test, including power generation, energy storage, power distribution, power conditioning, protection, and monitoring.
  • Spacecraft electrical interconnect design, including harnesses, cable assemblies, connectors, grounding, bonding, shielding, and interface control.
  • Development and execution of electrical integration and test activities for flight hardware, engineering development units, qualification units, or equivalent high-reliability systems.
  • Experience leading technical teams and coordinating multidisciplinary engineering activities through design, manufacturing, integration, verification, and test.
  • Experience with requirements definition, verification planning, technical reviews, configuration management, and engineering documentation.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex electrical hardware and resolving anomalies through structured failure analysis and root-cause investigation.
  • Experience with electrical safety, electrostatic discharge (ESD) controls, contamination control, and handling practices for high-reliability or flight hardware.
  • Must be customer focused and able to work on a self-initiated basis or in a team environment and able to work extended hours and travel as required.
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance is required.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience developing spacecraft electrical power systems, including solar arrays, batteries, power distribution, converters, load switches, and battery management systems.
  • Experience with spacecraft interfaces and harnesses, including SpaceWire, MIL-STD-1553, CAN, Ethernet, serial interfaces, discrete I/O, connectors, shielding, grounding, bonding, fabrication, and testing.
  • Experience supporting environmental, qualification, and acceptance testing, including thermal vacuum, vibration, shock, EMC, and radiation testing.
  • Familiarity with NASA, DoD, or commercial space standards; space-qualified components; derating; reliability; and parts, materials, and process controls.
  • Experience with electrical design, modeling, simulation, and test tools, including Altium, AutoCAD Electrical, MATLAB/Simulink, PSpice, LTspice, LabVIEW, and Python.
  • Experience with power-system analysis, automated test equipment, data acquisition, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and electrical test equipment.
  • Experience supporting technical reviews, including SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, qualification, and acceptance reviews.
  • Familiarity with configuration, requirements, and product lifecycle management tools.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership, project coordination, customer communication, and ability to resolve complex engineering problems.
