High Voltage (HV) Power & Infrastructure

Projects - Scotland

Office - Glasgow

Role - Hybrid

The opportunity

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Electrical Project Engineer with a degree in Electrical Engineering to lead the safe, successful delivery of a varied portfolio of high-voltage power and infrastructure projects. This is a hands-on engineering and project management role: alongside taking ownership of projects from planning through to completion, you’ll remain closely involved in the technical electrical engineering work, helping ensure designs and solutions meet the required standards. You’ll be responsible for delivering work on time and within budget, while building strong relationships with clients, suppliers and project teams.

This is an opportunity to combine technical engineering knowledge with project leadership and commercial responsibility, while mentoring and supporting the development of Project Engineers and Graduate Engineers.

What you’ll be doing

  • Remain actively involved in hands-on electrical engineering, contributing technical expertise and helping resolve engineering and design challenges as projects progress.
  • Lead and manage projects from initial planning through to completion, maintaining a focus on safety, quality, programme and budget.
  • Manage, mentor and support Project Engineers, offering technical advice and guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate with clients, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors, site teams and other stakeholders to meet project objectives and expectations.
  • Develop construction programmes, monitor progress and coordinate resources to keep delivery on track.
  • Manage project budgets, commercial matters and financial forecasting, including identifying and addressing risks to delivery.
  • Promote high standards of health and safety, including planning and reviewing risk assessments and method statements, and carrying out site safety audits.
  • Visit sites to inspect works, monitor quality and progress, and attend project coordination and progress meetings. Visits are expected at least monthly for remote projects and twice monthly for local projects.
  • Coordinate in-house design and engineering activity, including equipment layouts, designs, cable schedules, and testing and commissioning procedures.
  • Work with manufacturers and suppliers on design, installation and commissioning; obtain competitive tenders and attend factory acceptance tests when required.
  • Plan procurement of long-lead items and coordinate the delivery of materials and equipment to site.
  • Manage interfaces between project teams, clients, network operators, commissioning teams and third-party engineers.
  • Maintain accurate project review documentation and support compliance with relevant statutory requirements, engineering standards and procedures.

What you’ll bring

Essential

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering (essential).
  • A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel across the UK, including occasional overnight stays.
  • At least five years’ relevant high-voltage electrical engineering and project management experience in contracting or utilities.
  • Experience delivering projects valued at over £1 million.
  • Commercial and financial management experience, including budgets and forecasting.
  • Experience managing programmes, clients, suppliers, subcontractors and internal resources.
  • The ability to identify engineering risks and compliance issues, and to manage several time-sensitive projects at once.

Desirable

  • Experience in the high-voltage sector.
  • Experience working with ICP’s / Private Networks
  • Experience managing teams of site personnel.
  • IET professional registration at IEng or CEng level, or working towards professional registration.

Why consider this role?

  • Responsibility across the full project lifecycle.
  • Exposure to varied high-voltage infrastructure projects.
  • The opportunity to mentor and develop other engineers.
  • An employee-owned business environment.

Package and practical details

The package includes a vehicle or car allowance. A bonus of up to 25% is indicated. Further details on pension contribution, professional membership or chartership support, relocation assistance and other benefits are to be confirmed.

The role involves regular site visits and travel across the UK, with occasional overnight stays.

Interested?

If you have the electrical engineering background, project delivery experience and leadership skills to deliver complex HV projects safely and commercially, we’d welcome your application.
