Electrical Project Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Electrical Project Engineer to manage electrical engineering projects from award through handover. The role combines project management, electrical engineering, design review, technical documentation, commercial oversight, and stakeholder management. You will work closely with project teams, contractors, suppliers, and clients to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with applicable standards.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

• Manage electrical engineering projects from initiation to completion, including project planning, budgeting, scheduling, procurement coordination, resource planning, and stakeholder management.

• Develop and maintain project schedules, monitor project progress against milestones, facilitate project meetings, and coordinate recovery plans when delays arise.

• Prepare and manage project documentation, including project management plans, quality plans, risk registers, RFIs, technical submissions, method statements, commissioning procedures, and handover documentation.

• Lead electrical engineering activities covering power generation, HV/MV/LV distribution systems, substations, transformers, switchboards, protection systems, earthing, lighting, fire, communications, and other building services disciplines.

• Review and approve technical specifications, vendor documentation, shop drawings, engineering calculations, and contractor submissions to ensure compliance with project requirements and relevant Australian and New Zealand standards.

• Coordinate power system studies including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, cable sizing, motor starting, and arc flash assessments using industry-standard engineering software.

• Produce and review electrical designs and drawings using AutoCAD and BIM platforms, ensuring quality, constructability, and compliance with applicable codes and standards.

• Manage project budgets, cost forecasts, variations, progress claims, procurement activities, and commercial reporting while maintaining project profitability and compliance with contractual obligations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Registered Electrical Engineer, Professional Electrical Engineer, Chartered Engineer, or equivalent professional accreditation.
• Minimum of 8-10 years of electrical engineering experience, including at least 5 years in project engineering or project management roles.
• Strong experience delivering electrical infrastructure, power, mining, industrial, commercial, or building services projects.
• Demonstrated experience managing projects within Australian and/or New Zealand environments and working with relevant AS/NZS standards.
• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and experience working with BIM platforms such as Revit or Navisworks.
• Strong understanding of HV, MV, and LV electrical systems, power distribution, protection systems, switchboards, substations, and electrical installations.
• Experience preparing project documentation including ITPs, commissioning procedures, quality plans, technical reports, and engineering deliverables.
• Strong commercial, contract administration, budgeting, and project reporting experience.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Microsoft 365, and engineering document management systems.
• Experience using ETAP, PowerCAD, or equivalent power system analysis software is highly desirable.
• PMP certification or equivalent project management qualification is preferred.
