What they need

Electrical Project Manager – Building Services (MEP)

Location: Manchester / Greater Manchester
Job type: Permanent, Full-time
Salary: Competitive salary + package, dependent on experience

Experienced Electrical Project Manager required to oversee commercial Electrical Building Services projects across Manchester and the North West.

Mech Electrics Recruitment are working on behalf of an established, highly regarded M&E engineering contractor with a strong portfolio of ongoing and upcoming projects.

We've partnered with this business for over 15 years and are now looking to appoint an experienced, electrically biased Project Manager to support its growing network of projects across the region.

The company delivers technically complex Mechanical and Electrical installations across commercial construction, Data Centres, Critical Infrastructure and specialist engineering environments.

This opportunity requires proven experience managing electrical installation projects within the commercial Building Services / MEP contracting sector.

The opportunity

You'll be responsible for the successful delivery of electrical installation packages across a number of projects, working closely with site teams, engineers, commercial colleagues and clients.

The position offers a combination of project ownership, technical involvement and client-facing responsibility, with the support of an established engineering and operational team.

Rather than being tied to one project indefinitely, you'll have the opportunity to work across a varied portfolio of schemes, providing continuity of work and exposure to different engineering challenges.

We're particularly interested in Project Managers based in Manchester or the surrounding areas who understand the practicalities of delivering electrical installations on live construction projects.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage the delivery of electrical Building Services installation packages from pre-construction and mobilisation through to commissioning and handover.
  • Oversee electrical works including LV distribution, containment, cabling, lighting, small power and associated systems.
  • Coordinate site managers, supervisors, subcontractors and directly employed labour to ensure projects are delivered safely and efficiently.
  • Manage project programmes, labour resources, procurement schedules and installation progress.
  • Work closely with commercial teams to monitor budgets, variations, valuations and project profitability.
  • Attend site meetings and maintain effective relationships with clients, main contractors, consultants and other project stakeholders.
  • Review drawings, specifications and technical submissions to ensure installations meet project requirements.
  • Coordinate electrical works alongside mechanical services and other construction disciplines.
  • Identify and resolve technical, programme and commercial issues throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage quality, health and safety, commissioning, testing and final project handover.
  • Provide regular project progress reports to senior management.

Essential experience

Applicants must have previous experience delivering electrical installation projects within the commercial construction / M&E Building Services sector.

We're looking for:

  • Proven experience as an Electrical Project Manager or electrically biased M&E Project Manager.
  • A strong background working for an M&E contractor or specialist electrical Building Services contractor.
  • Experience managing electrical installation packages on commercial construction projects.
  • Good technical knowledge of electrical distribution, containment, lighting, power and associated Building Services systems.
  • Experience managing site teams, subcontractors, procurement, programmes and project costs.
  • An understanding of commercial project management, including variations, budgets and contractual responsibilities.
  • The ability to coordinate electrical installations alongside mechanical and other construction services.
  • Strong communication and client management skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and work across projects within the region.

An electrical trade background, apprenticeship or relevant Electrical Engineering / Building Services qualification would be advantageous.

Relevant project backgrounds

We'd be particularly interested in hearing from Electrical Project Managers with experience delivering projects involving:

  • Commercial offices and major refurbishments
  • Data Centres and Critical Infrastructure
  • Healthcare and education facilities
  • Industrial and specialist engineering environments
  • Large-scale commercial and mixed-use developments

Previous Data Centre experience would be beneficial, but is not essential.

An experienced Electrical Project Manager who has successfully delivered substantial commercial MEP installation packages would be equally relevant.

Important information before applying

This position specifically requires an electrically biased Project Manager with practical experience delivering electrical Building Services installations within the construction industry.

Experience limited to electrical maintenance, facilities management, domestic installations, utilities infrastructure or manufacturing project management, without commercial MEP installation experience, will not meet the core requirements.

The role involves regular travel between projects across Manchester and the North West, so applicants should be suitably located to support the regional project portfolio.

Why consider this opportunity?

You'll be joining an established engineering contractor with a strong reputation for delivering technically demanding M&E projects.

The business offers a substantial pipeline of work, an experienced management structure and opportunities to become involved in specialist Data Centre and Critical Infrastructure projects alongside more traditional commercial Building Services schemes.

For an Electrical Project Manager looking for continuity, technical variety and the opportunity to take ownership of projects within a growing business, this represents an excellent long-term career move.

Mech Electrics Recruitment have worked with this business for more than 15 years and can offer genuine insight into the company, its management team and the opportunities available.

If you're an experienced Electrical Project Manager with a commercial Building Services background and are based within commuting distance of Manchester, we'd welcome your application.

Pay: £68,000.00-£75,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Company car
  • Company pension
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Free or subsidised travel
  • On-site parking
  • Private medical insurance
