What they need

Company

Biosus Energy Ltd is a leading player in the renewable energy sector, committed to creating a sustainable and eco-friendly future. We specialize in renewable energy projects, including solar PV, biomass CHPs, solar thermal, and heat pumps. Our projects range in size from £10 million to £50 million and are vital components in the transition to cleaner, greener energy sources.

Role

Biosus Energy Ltd is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Electrical Qualified Supervisor to oversee, sign off, and ensure compliance in the design, installation, and maintenance of industrial electrical and renewable energy projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining high standards of electrical safety, compliance with regulations, and leading technical installation and maintenance teams.

As an Electrical Qualified Supervisor, you will contribute to the development, execution, and long-term reliability of renewable energy projects—specifically focusing on commercial solar PV installations, EV charging infrastructure, and the electrical maintenance of biomass CHPs. Crucially, you will also play a key mentorship role within the company, taking direct responsibility for the hands-on training, development, and site supervision of a 3rd-year electrical apprentice, helping them progress safely towards their full qualification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Compliance Sign-Off: Sign off on electrical design, installation, and maintenance works to ensure compliance with BS 7671 (18th Edition Wiring Regulations) and other industry standards.
  • ·Verification & Testing: Conduct initial verification, periodic inspection, and certification of electrical installations, including specialized testing for solar arrays and EV charging systems.
  • Solar & EV Infrastructure: Lead and supervise the installation, commissioning, and grid connection of large-scale solar PV systems and commercial electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.
  • CHP Electrical Maintenance: Oversee fault-finding, diagnostic testing, repairs, and routine electrical maintenance on biomass Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems and associated control panels.
  • Apprentice Mentorship & Training: Act as the primary mentor and supervisor for the company’s 3rd-year apprentice. Provide structured hands-on training, oversee their day-to-day tasks on site, review logbooks, and ensure they work safely while learning compliant industrial electrical practices.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and supervise electrical installation and maintenance team, providing technical guidance, toolbox talks, and ensuring quality workmanship.
  • Regulatory Liaison: Liaise with clients, regulatory bodies (e.g., NICEIC), and inspectors to ensure compliance and approval of all installations.
  • Safety Documentation: Perform risk assessments and method statements (RAMS), ensuring safe working practices are maintained, especially regarding working at heights (solar) and high-voltage/generation environments (CHP/Apprentice training).
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate documentation, asset logs, and certification records for completed installations and maintenance works.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Core Electrical Qualification: Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Services (Electrical Installation) or equivalent.
  • Regulations: 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) certification.
  • Inspection & Testing: Level 3 Award in Initial Verification & Certification (2391-50) and Periodic Inspection & Testing (2391-51).
  • Renewable Certifications: Dedicated certifications in Solar PV installation (e.g., City & Guilds 2399) and Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation (e.g., City & Guilds 2919) are highly desirable.
  • Industry Registration: Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS) Gold Card (required). Registered with NICEIC, NAPIT, or ECA as a Qualified Supervisor (or willingness to become registered).
  • Experience: Proven experience (5+ years) in industrial electrical installations, commercial solar/EV delivery, plant maintenance, and team supervision.
  • Mentorship Skills: Previous experience or a strong natural aptitude for training, mentoring, or supervising junior electricians or apprentices on active job sites.
  • CHP & Controls: Strong practical knowledge of industrial control systems, telemetry, and fault-finding on generators/CHPs. Controller experience would be an advantage, such as Ladder logic, COMAP, or Siemens.
  • Health & Safety: Strong knowledge of health & safety regulations (CDM 2015, ATEX if applicable, and Working at Heights).
