ABOUT COLWIN
We are a leading, engineering-driven operations and maintenance partner for flexible and hybrid power generation infrastructure across Ireland, the UK and Europe. We support mission-critical assets with a focus on safety, reliability and performance, drawing on deep technical expertise and a delivery culture built for long-term, high-availability operation.
We combine engineering intelligence with operational discipline to deliver high-reliability services at scale. Building on a strong foundation in flexible thermal generation, we are expanding our capability across evolving sustainable hybrid and storage technologies and progressing toward campus-wide data centre and energy O&M solutions - supporting controlled growth through technical credibility and a safety-first approach.
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance activities for all electrical systems, switchgear, distribution networks, control systems, and protection equipment.
- Lead, supervise, and mentor the team of electrical technicians and trainees, allocating resources, setting priorities, and managing team performance and development.
- Responding to out of hours events (when required), secondary on call system (SOC).
- Monitor electrical operational parameters (voltage, current, power factor, frequency) and lead troubleshooting; make autonomous decisions to resolve electrical anomalies and minimize downtime.
- Ensure strict adherence to QAS and HSE procedures, quality standards, and industry best practices, with a strong emphasis on electrical safety.
- Manage electrical tools, test equipment, calibration instruments, and spare parts inventory, including supply chain coordination and stock control.
- Diagnose electrical faults by reviewing single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, protection relay settings, and test results, and independently validate and approve repair strategies.
- Respond to plant electrical alarms and emergencies, directing the team in restoration efforts.
- Enforce Permit to Work systems and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, with specific attention to safe electrical isolation; review and approve isolation permits and work documentation for completeness.
- Oversee and audit the logging of maintenance activities in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), ensuring data accuracy for operational reporting.
- Oversee the safe isolation, de-energization, and earthing/grounding of electrical equipment, championing safety culture within the team.
- Competent to operate and maintain HV (High Voltage) systems (typically 15 kV to 110 kV), acting as the responsible person for HV switching and isolation.
- Prepare, review, and approve Method Statements and Risk Assessments (RAMS), assessing electrical risks (arc flash, shock hazards, etc.) from a managerial perspective.
- Prepare, review, and approve switching plans/SOPs/EOPs.
- Identify system anomalies, lead root-cause analysis, and drive continuous improvement initiatives, presenting data-driven recommendations to upper management.
QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE:
- EQF Level 6 / NFQ Level 8 (or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Power Systems, or a closely related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years hands-on experience in maintaining industrial electrical systems (switchgear, transformers, motors, generators, VSDs, protection relays, control panels, distribution networks).
- Minimum 2 years of proven experience in a supervisory or team leadership role, managing electrical technicians and/or sub-contractors in an industrial environment.
- HV training provided by a recognised and accredited training provider i.e. ‘City & Guilds’.
- Advanced capability in electrical testing, diagnostics, and fault-finding on low, medium, and high voltage systems.
- Demonstrated ability to manage time-sensitive tasks and prioritize workloads effectively.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting complex single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, loop drawings, protection logic diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Proficient in CMMS software for managing work orders and logging maintenance history, including advanced reporting and analytical functions.
- Experience in operation and maintenance activities within an industrial environment (power generation, heavy industry, or oil & gas).
- Thorough knowledge of safe work practices, including electrical isolation, LOTO, arc flash protection, earthing/grounding, and Permit to Work systems.
- Working knowledge of British Standards and European health & safety regulations.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken).
- Understanding of Portuguese is optional but valued.
- Availability and authorisation to work in Ireland is essential.
