Location: Peterborough – predominantly office-based
Salary: Up to £45,000 depending on experience

The opportunity

Smart Home Charge is looking for an experienced electrical professional to support the management of our nationwide team of EV chargepoint installers.

This is a predominantly office-based position combining engineer supervision, live technical support, quality and electrical compliance. It would suit an experienced domestic electrician, electrical supervisor or Qualified Supervisor who wants to move away from full-time site work while remaining closely involved in practical electrical decisions.

You do not need extensive EV charging experience. We are primarily looking for strong domestic electrical knowledge, sound judgement and the ability to support and develop other electricians. Training on our chargers, systems and installation processes will be provided.

What you will do

Working alongside our Electrical Manager, you will:

• Support electricians with technical queries during live installations;
• Review remote surveys and help assess non-standard work;
• Assist with quotations and installation decisions;
• Help resolve difficult jobs, repeat visits and electrical complaints;
• Review installation evidence and electrical certification;
• Conduct quality audits and follow remedial actions through to completion;
• Support engineer onboarding, training and competency development;
• Deliver toolbox talks and technical guidance;
• Help maintain NICEIC and wider electrical-compliance standards;
• Support the technical assessment and monitoring of subcontractors;
• Set appropriate technical standards for tools, test equipment, materials and van stock;
• Provide dependable supervisory cover when the Electrical Manager is unavailable.

Once established, you are expected to take day-to-day management responsibility for an agreed group of employed electricians, including one-to-ones, training, quality and performance.

The role is based mainly in our Peterborough office, with occasional travel for audits, investigations and engineer support.

What we are looking for

You should have:

• A recognised electrical apprenticeship, Level 3 qualification or equivalent;
• Strong knowledge of BS 7671 and domestic electrical installations;
• Substantial practical experience working in customers’ homes;
• Experience supervising, mentoring or technically supporting electricians;
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability;
• The confidence to make sensible technical decisions and explain them clearly;
• Good organisation and the persistence to follow actions through;
• Confidence using office software and digital job-management systems;
• A full UK driving licence;
• A willingness to work predominantly from our Peterborough office.

Desirable experience

It would be helpful if you have:

• Inspection and testing qualifications;
• Current or previous NICEIC Qualified Supervisor experience;
• An EV chargepoint installation qualification or practical EV experience;
• Managed or supervised a field-based electrical team;
• Conducted quality audits or investigated installation defects;
• Managed subcontractors or reviewed their work;
• Prepared quotations or reviewed remote surveys;
• Experience with solar, battery storage or other domestic renewables.

Existing QS and EV experience are advantageous but are not essential where you have the right practical experience, supervisory ability and willingness to develop.
