Electrical System Engineer

Akkodis is seeking a for a Principal Electrical Engineer at Location: Prince George VA for a contract Duration: 06+Months with potential to convert full-time

Pay Range: $85/h- 100/h; The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer with expertise in low- and medium-voltage power distribution systems and switchgear design. This individual will lead the design, development, and implementation of electrical power systems for industrial, mission-critical, and data center applications.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with switchgear, circuit breakers, power distribution, protection systems, NEC compliance, and electrical infrastructure design. Experience with Siemens and Allen-Bradley systems is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop low-voltage and medium-voltage electrical power distribution systems.
• Lead switchgear design, specification, and integration activities.
• Develop electrical one-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Support circuit breaker selection, coordination, and protection strategies.
• Design cable tray layouts and electrical routing systems.
• Ensure compliance with NEC, IEEE, and other applicable industry standards.
• Perform electrical system studies including load analysis and coordination reviews.
• Interface with manufacturing, installation, commissioning, and field engineering teams.
• Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis of electrical system issues.
• Collaborate with controls and automation teams utilizing Siemens and Allen-Bradley platforms.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 5+ years of electrical engineering experience.
• Experience with low-voltage and medium-voltage power systems.
• Strong switchgear design and application experience.
• Knowledge of electrical protection systems and circuit breakers.
• Experience with NEC requirements and industry standards.
• Electrical infrastructure and cable tray design experience.
• Strong understanding of industrial power distribution systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting data centers or mission-critical facilities.
• Familiarity with IEEE C37.20 switchgear standards.
• Experience with Siemens and Allen-Bradley systems.
• PE License or ability to obtain.
• Experience with power system studies and coordination analysis.
