Description
We are looking for an Electrical System Engineer to lead the requirements definition, system design and integration of complex electrical systems across GM Special Vehicles programmes.
Working across internal engineering teams, testing facilities and external suppliers, you will provide technical and project engineering leadership throughout the product development lifecycle, from requirements capture and system design through to supplier delivery, validation and test support.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on specialist automotive programmes, ensuring the seamless integration of electrical systems to the highest standards of quality, functional safety and certification compliance.
The Role
You will be responsible for the engineering and delivery of electrical system requirements and integration, working closely with design, development, DV testing, supplier and programme teams. The role is based in Shalford or Warwick, with travel to headquarters and testing facilities.
This is your chance to:
- Collaborate with stakeholders to collect and define detailed system requirements for automotive projects.
- Ensure requirements are clearly documented, aligned with customer needs and fully traceable throughout the project lifecycle, including DFMEA.
- Ensure certification and functional safety requirements are fully understood and incorporated into the system design.
- Generate requirements documentation for suppliers to deliver against and for the DV team to test against.
- Oversee the technical aspects of automotive integration projects, ensuring timely and efficient execution.
- Coordinate with design, development and testing teams to meet project milestones.
- Assist with project planning, resource allocation, risk management and scheduling.
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure deliverables meet system integration requirements and quality standards.
- Manage supplier performance, resolve issues and ensure alignment with project goals and timelines.
- Track and report on project progress to the programme lead, identifying risks and mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate between internal teams and external suppliers to ensure smooth project execution.
- Provide technical support to the DV team during issue investigation.
- Apply Vector and Peak tools, including CANalyzer, for CAN network diagnostics, testing and analysis.
- Provide technical guidance and support on the application of these tools during integration and testing phases.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
You'll be a technically strong electrical systems engineer with experience in automotive systems integration, ideally within an OEM or Tier 1 supplier environment.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in automotive systems integration or a related field.
- Strong technical expertise in system integration, testing and project engineering in the automotive sector.
- Proficiency with requirements capture tools, Vector tools, CANalyzer and Peak CAN tools for in-vehicle network testing and diagnostics.
- Strong understanding of the CAN protocol and automotive communication systems.
- Basic experience using CATIA.
- Demonstrated project engineering experience, with a proven ability to manage schedules, resources and supplier relationships.
- Experience of requirements management tools and a model-based systems engineering approach.
- Familiarity with automotive safety standards and regulations; knowledge of ISO 26262 is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex issues and find solutions in fast-paced environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects.
- Fluency in English is essential.
