Electrical Technician

Overview

RSRS operates multiple PVC extrusion lines, a mixing/blending system, and supporting equipment on 480 V three-phase service. The Electrical Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of all plant electrical systems and production equipment.

Duties

• Install, relocate, and connect production equipment: extrusion lines, mixers, downstream equipment (vacuum tanks, haul-offs, cutters, bellers), chillers, and material handling systems
• Terminate motor, heater, and control wiring; verify rotation, phasing, and grounding
• Coordinate with outside electrical contractors and equipment vendors on service work, new machine hookups, and upgrades
• Set up and verify temperature controllers, VFDs, and PLC/HMI parameters on new and modified equipment
• Maintain panel layouts, wiring documentation, and as-built drawings

Experience

• Proven experience as an industrial electrician or electrical technician within manufacturing or processing environments.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, industrial automation, and electrical troubleshooting techniques.
• Hands-on experience reading schematics, blueprints, P&IDs, and electrical wiring diagrams.
• Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), distributed control systems (DCS), calibration procedures, and engineering troubleshooting methods.
• Ability to operate testing instruments such as voltmeters, ohmmeters, sensors, vision inspection systems, Calypso software tools, and low voltage testing devices.
• Mechanical knowledge related to equipment maintenance and troubleshooting mechanical components integrated with electrical systems.
• Experience working with electrical safety procedures in industrial settings to maintain a safe work environment.
• Excellent problem-solving skills combined with customer service orientation when supporting internal teams or external vendors.
• Diagnose and repair electrical faults on production equipment: heater bands and thermocouples, contactors and SSRs, VFDs and DC drives, sensors, control circuits
• Perform preventive maintenance on motors, drives, panels, and heating zones; keep PM logs current
• Respond to breakdowns quickly to minimize line downtime; communicate status to production
• Maintain spare parts inventory for electrical components and recommend stocking levels
• Perform basic mechanical repairs when needed (belts, bearings, couplings) and support the mechanical maintenance team
• Follow and enforce lockout/tagout, arc flash, and NFPA 70E practices
• Ensure work complies with the California Electrical Code and Cal/OSHA requirements
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe electrical shop

Qualifications

• 3+ years of industrial electrical experience in a manufacturing plant; plastics extrusion, injection molding, or similar process industry strongly preferred
• Solid understanding of 480 V three-phase power, motor controls, VFDs, and PID temperature control
• Ability to read electrical schematics, panel drawings, and ladder logic
• Hands-on experience with PLCs and HMIs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar)
• California General Electrician certification, journeyman card, or equivalent documented experience preferred
• Willingness to be on call and to work occasional nights/weekends for unplanned outages and scheduled maintenance

Pay: $20.00 - $33.63 per hour
