What they need

We are seeking a Test Technician to join a growing electrical testing and commissioning team supporting projects across commercial, industrial, utility, and mission-critical environments.

This is an excellent opportunity for an electrical professional looking to build a long-term career in power system testing, commissioning, and NETA-based electrical testing. The Test Technician will work under the direction of a Lead Test Technician or Test Supervisor and will gain hands-on experience with testing procedures, electrical equipment, safety practices, technical documentation, and industry standards.

The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, mechanically and electrically inclined, willing to travel, and committed to learning and developing their technical skills. This position provides a structured path for technicians who want to progress toward higher-level testing responsibilities and industry certifications.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Testing & Commissioning

  • Perform assigned electrical testing and commissioning activities in accordance with established test plans, NETA ATS/MTS procedures, project requirements, and direction from senior field personnel.
  • Arrive prepared for each assignment with required PPE, tools, documentation, and equipment.
  • Follow testing procedures carefully and ask questions whenever requirements or procedures are unclear.
  • Identify and immediately communicate abnormal test results, unexpected site conditions, or unusual equipment behavior to the Lead Technician or Supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout each assignment.
  • Work professionally with customers, contractors, project personnel, and other trades.

Testing Documentation & Data Accuracy

  • Accurately record test results and equipment information on project data sheets at the time testing is performed.
  • Document equipment identification, nameplate information, test points, test instrument information, calibration dates, as-found conditions, measured values, and as-left conditions.
  • Ensure all testing documentation is complete, legible, and organized for review.
  • Identify and properly document results that fall outside applicable NETA acceptance criteria or customer specifications.
  • Submit completed testing documentation to the Lead Technician or Supervisor for review.

Safety & Job Hazard Analysis

  • Follow all applicable electrical and jobsite safety requirements, including NFPA 70E, arc-flash boundaries, PPE requirements, lockout/tagout, and site-specific procedures.
  • Participate actively in Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) discussions before work begins.
  • Understand and follow all identified hazards and control measures.
  • Exercise Stop Work Authority whenever an unsafe or uncontrolled condition is identified.
  • Immediately report incidents, near misses, injuries, unsafe conditions, or changes in site conditions.
  • Maintain awareness of crew safety and proactively communicate potential hazards.

Test Equipment & Asset Care

  • Inspect testing equipment before use and verify equipment condition and calibration status.
  • Properly handle, transport, store, and protect electrical test equipment, tools, vehicles, and PPE.
  • Use equipment only within its rated capabilities and manufacturer specifications.
  • Immediately report damaged, malfunctioning, or questionable test equipment and remove it from service when appropriate.
  • Properly secure equipment during transportation and maintain organized equipment storage.

Training & Career Development

  • Participate in a structured technical development and apprenticeship program designed to support progression within the electrical testing industry.
  • Accurately track apprenticeship hours, equipment tested, procedures performed, and relevant field experience.
  • Complete required classroom training, online coursework, and competency evaluations.
  • Work closely with Lead Technicians and technical leadership to understand development milestones and advancement opportunities.
  • Take ownership of your professional development and actively seek opportunities to expand your testing knowledge and field capabilities.

Timekeeping & Project Administration

  • Accurately record daily start times, stop times, breaks, total hours, job numbers, and applicable project codes.
  • Submit timesheets on a daily basis and ensure all information is accurate before submission.
  • Communicate any payroll or timekeeping discrepancies promptly.

What We're Looking For

  • Electrical, electrical testing, commissioning, maintenance, or related field experience preferred.
  • Strong interest in developing a career in electrical testing and power systems.
  • Basic understanding of electrical equipment, electrical safety, and testing principles.
  • Ability to read and follow technical procedures, test plans, and documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation.
  • Willingness to work in the field and travel as required.
  • Ability to work effectively under the direction of Lead Technicians and Supervisors.
