Electrical Technician / Wireman

I. DAILY TASK

1. Blueprint Analysis: Review electrical schematics, point-to-point wiring diagrams, and layout drawings to plan the daily assembly sequence.

2. Component Mounting: Drill, tap, and mount DIN rails, wire ducts (Panduit), and heavy components (transformers, VFDs, PLCs) onto internal back panels.

3. Precision Wiring: Execute systematic wiring of control circuits and power circuits using specified wire gauges, ensuring all connections are stripped and crimped with the correct ferrules or lugs.

4. Labelling & Identification: Generate and apply heat-shrink or wrap-around wire markers and engraved component tags to match the electrical CAD drawings exactly.

5. Shop Housekeeping: Maintain a clean "5S" workspace, ensuring that copper offcuts and insulation debris are cleared to prevent short circuits in sensitive electronics.

II. RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Electrical Box Assembly: Full-cycle construction of industrial control panels, from the mechanical preparation of the enclosure (punching holes for conduits/HMIs) to the final internal wiring.

2. Complex Connections:

· Power Distribution: Connecting primary incoming power lines to main disconnects and distributing to sub-breakers.

· Signal Integrity: Separating AC power lines from DC signal wires to prevent Electro-Magnetic Interference (EMI) in sensitive PLC inputs.

3. Grounding & Bonding (Critical Safety):

· Ensuring "Star Grounding" configurations where applicable.

· Installing grounding braids between the enclosure body and removable doors/gland plates.

· Verifying that all non-current-carrying metal parts are bonded to the Main Earthing Terminal (MET).

4. Quality Assurance & Verification:

· Performing Point-to-Point Continuity Tests using a digital multimeter to ensure no cross-wiring.

· Conducting Pull Tests on crimped terminals to verify mechanical security.

· Checking for "Cold Solder" joints or loose screw terminals that could lead to arcing or overheating.

5. Field Installation Support: Occasionally assisting in the integration of the electrical box onto the larger machine frame, connecting external sensors, motors, and limit switches.

III. QUALIFICATIONS

1. Education: Certificate/Diploma in Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, or equivalent.

2. Experience: Minimum 1–2 years in panel building or industrial automation.

3. Technical Skills:

· Schematic Literacy: Must be able to "read" a circuit fluently, identifying symbols for NO/NC contacts, solenoids, and analog transducers.

· Tool Mastery: Expert use of hydraulic knock-out punches, automatic wire, torque screwdrivers, and ferrule crimpers.

· Grounding Standards: Knowledge of Malaysian electrical standards (IEC/ST) regarding earthing and circuit protection.

4. Soft Skills: Extreme attention to detail—recognizing that one loose wire can cause a total system failure or a safety hazard.

5. Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, manual dexterity for handling small components, and the ability to lift to 20kg (transformers/motors).
