About Us
Vanguard Power Services is a Dallas-based electrical testing and field services company. We perform acceptance and maintenance testing in accordance with NETA standards for industrial, utility, renewable and mission critical customers across Texas and beyond. We're a small, growing team where good technicians get real responsibility, direct access to leadership, and a say in how the work gets done.
The Role
We're looking for a technician who can run a test scope with minimal supervision, produce clean data, and represent VPS well on a customer site. You'll work on substations, switchgear, transformers, protective relays, and power distribution equipment, sometimes leading a small crew and sometimes supporting a senior lead on larger projects.
What You'll Do
Perform acceptance and maintenance testing on LV and MV switchgear, circuit breakers (air, vacuum, SF6), transformers, cables, and bus
Test and commission protective relays (SEL, GE, Beckwith and similar) using Omicron, Doble or Megger test sets
Run insulation resistance, contact resistance, power factor, TTR, winding resistance, VLF and hi-pot tests
Perform primary and secondary injection testing, CT/PT testing, and ground fault testing
Support IR thermal scanning, startup, and energization activities
Document results accurately and complete field reports to VPS standards
Follow site safety requirements, LOTO, and NFPA 70E practices on every job
Communicate clearly with customers, GCs, and the VPS office about progress and findings
What You Bring
3 to 5 years of field electrical testing experience
NETA Level II or equivalent experience
Working knowledge of NETA ATS/MTS, NFPA 70E, and test equipment operation
Comfort reading one-lines, schematics, and relay settings
Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record
Willingness to travel up to 80% and work outage schedules, including nights and weekends when required
Ability to pass a background check and drug screen
Nice to Have
Relay testing and commissioning experience on substation or renewable projects
Mission critical / data center commissioning experience (UPS, generators, switchgear startup)
Thermography certification
OSHA 10 or 30
What We Offer
Health, dental, vision, and life insurance for you and your entire family
Pay: $40 to $50 per hour, based on experience
Overtime pay and per diem on travel jobs
Company truck or vehicle stipend
SIMPLE IRA retirement plan with 3% employer match
Paid holidays and 15 days PTO
Direct path to lead technician roles as we grow
