What they need

At Ventia, we help keep communities running by delivering essential infrastructure services across Aotearoa. We’re looking for an Electrical Technician to join our Far North water and wastewater network team, supporting critical operations across a wide regional footprint.

This is a fantastic opportunity whether you’re newly qualified or building your experience, with strong support from an experienced team and exposure to automation systems like PLC and SCADA.

About The Role This is a field-based, mobile role covering sites from Opononi to Russell and up to Kaitaia, based out of Kaikohe.

You’ll be responsible for maintaining the electrical systems that keep water and wastewater services running safely and efficiently.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Carrying out planned and preventative maintenance across treatment plants, pump stations, and network assets
  • Responding to reactive breakdowns and call-outs (shared roster – approx. 1 week per month)
  • Supporting minor project and upgrade work
  • Troubleshooting electrical systems including PLCs and SCADA
  • Maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and operational requirements
  • Working both independently in the field and collaboratively with the wider team

What You’ll Bring We’re open to newly qualified electricians as well as those with more experience.

Essential

  • EWRB Electrical Registration
  • Full NZ Driver’s Licence
  • Strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship

Experience We Value

  • Exposure to industrial or infrastructure environments (water experience not essential)
  • Familiarity with PLCs, SCADA, pumps, motors, or control systems
  • Confidence in fault-finding and problem-solving
  • Ability to work independently and manage your own workload

About You You’re someone who:

  • Is a self-starter who can work autonomously in the field
  • Enjoys a mix of hands-on technical work and problem-solving
  • Communicates well and works effectively in a team
  • Is flexible and willing to support an on-call roster
  • Takes pride in supporting essential community services

What’s in It for You?

  • Flexible start and finish times to suit work-life balance
  • Company vehicle, tools, PPE, and uniform provided
  • Structured on-call roster (1 week in 4)
  • Work across a diverse and scenic Far North region
  • Join a tight-knit team with a strong, supportive culture
  • Opportunities to build skills in automation, SCADA, and infrastructure systems

About The Team You’ll join a close-knit team of 6 technicians, working across the Far North network. The team offers a great balance of collaboration and independence, with strong local knowledge and support.

Additional Information

  • Work involves outdoor environments, travel between sites, and occasional after-hours response
  • PPE, tools, and safety training are fully provided
  • You’ll play a critical role in maintaining essential services and compliance for the region
