What they need

GTS Space is working with a company at the frontier of space-based pharmaceutical research, building spacecraft payload electronics that operate where the margin for error is essentially zero. They need a High-Speed PCB Design Engineer to take full ownership of payload hardware from initial concept through to layout release -- someone who is equally comfortable in a design tool and in a lab during bring-up.

What you will be doing:

  • Leading high-speed PCB design for spacecraft payload electronics across the full development lifecycle, from early concept through to layout sign-off
  • Defining and maintaining technical specifications for electronic subsystems and high-speed interfaces
  • Designing to ECSS and/or IPC Class 3 standards, covering stack-up definition, controlled impedance routing, and both manufacturability and assembly constraints
  • Running signal integrity and power integrity analysis and simulation -- impedance profiles, eye diagrams, return loss, crosstalk, PDN impedance -- and translating findings directly into layout constraints
  • Driving component selection for high-speed designs, including COTS and HiRel parts, and leading EEE parts and PCB assembly qualification
  • Preparing for and supporting electrical test campaigns across functional, performance, EMC, and ESD testing, working alongside test and systems teams
  • Assessing reliability, failure modes, and safety of components and interconnects, and contributing to design reviews and risk mitigation activities
  • Troubleshooting and resolving design issues through development, bring-up, test, and integration to keep the payload programme on schedule
  • Collaborating with mechanical, thermal, and systems engineers to ensure the electronics module integrates cleanly into the wider payload architecture

What you will need:

  • A Master's degree in Electronics Engineering, or equivalent professional experience at that level
  • At least five years in PCB design with a demonstrable high-speed background
  • Strong proficiency in Altium Designer (or a comparable high-end PCB design tool) and solid command of:
  • Controlled impedance routing across microstrip and stripline, including stack-up planning
  • Differential pair routing, length matching, and propagation delay management
  • Parasitics modelling and via and return path optimisation
  • Crosstalk minimisation and EMC-conscious layout practices
  • The ability to produce and maintain clear technical documentation -- schematics, layout constraints, stack-up definitions, review packages, and engineering reports
  • A hands-on debug mindset and strong analytical problem-solving approach

Other offers great for you!
