What they need
About the role
Simrex designs and builds high-reliability wireless data products for traffic, rail, SCADA, and aviation applications. We build in small, precise batches, typically 50 to 100 units, not on a high-volume line.
This is a long-term role. A long-time team member is retiring, and we're investing in a 30+ day paid training overlap so you can learn our products, documentation, and vendors directly from him. We're looking for someone who wants to own this work and grow with us for years.
What you'll do
- Assembly, configuration, and test (about 60%): Build standard products from our established work instructions. Build prototypes from engineering drawings and schematics. Hand solder and do mechanical assembly. Load firmware and set up product configurations, which are often specific to each customer project. Run diagnostic tests. We provide training on our tools.
- Sourcing, purchasing, inventory, and kitting (about 15%): Source and buy electronic components and subassemblies, including finding alternates when parts are hard to get. Work out part needs from BOMs for upcoming builds. Maintain the parts inventory. Kit PCBs and tape-and-reel parts for our outside SMT assembler.
- Shipping and receiving (about 15%): Receive and inspect incoming parts, check them against packing slips, and log them into inventory. Pack, label, and ship finished products. Carrier tools are easy to learn.
- Documentation (about 10%): Keep our well-documented work instructions current as engineering changes come through, and write new ones when products are added. Maintain build logs and quality records to ISO-level standards.
What you'll need
- 3+ years of electronic assembly experience, including hand soldering
- Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and assembly drawings
- Experience following written work instructions
- Strong organization and Excel skills
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
Nice to have
- IPC J-STD-001 or IPC-A-610 certification
- Experience sourcing and purchasing electronic components (Digi-Key, Mouser, Arrow, and similar)
- Experience loading firmware or configuring electronic products
- Experience with SMT kitting or tape-and-reel parts
- ISO 9001 or other quality-system documentation experience
Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
Benefits:
- Dental insurance
- Health insurance
- Paid time off
- Retirement plan
Application Question(s):
- Can you read schematics and assembly drawings well enough to build a prototype without written instructions? Briefly describe an example.
- Have you followed and updated written work instructions or assembly procedures? Please describe.
- Have you sourced or purchased electronic components (for example from Digi-Key, Mouser, or Arrow), or managed a parts inventory? Please describe.
Experience:
- electronic assembly and hand soldering: 3 years (Required)
License/Certification:
- IPC J-STD-001 or IPC-A-610 certification (Preferred)
Work Location: In person
