Elevator Technician

Job Summary

Victoria Manhattan Elevators is seeking an experienced Elevator Engineer with strong mechanical and electrical expertise to lead the installation, maintenance, repair, and modernization of elevator and escalator systems. The ideal candidate brings a minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in the vertical transportation industry, a deep understanding of both mechanical and electrical/electronic control systems, and a proven track record of diagnosing and resolving complex faults safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, commission, maintain, and repair elevators, escalators, and related vertical transportation equipment in line with manufacturer and regulatory specifications.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical faults, including motors, gearboxes, sheaves, guide rails, door operators, hydraulic systems, and ropes/belts.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and electronic faults, including control panels, PLCs, wiring, sensors, drives, and safety circuits.
• Carry out routine preventive maintenance schedules and inspections to ensure optimal equipment performance and compliance with safety standards.
• Lead or support elevator modernization and retrofit projects, upgrading legacy mechanical and electrical systems to current standards.
• Respond promptly to breakdown calls and emergency callouts, minimizing downtime for clients.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
• Ensure all work complies with relevant safety codes, standards, and company procedures.
• Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and maintenance logs.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior technicians and engineers.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies as required.
• Manage spare parts requirements and coordinate with procurement for timely availability.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree, HND, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of proven experience working on elevators and/or escalators, covering installation, maintenance, and repair.
• Strong working knowledge of mechanical systems: traction and hydraulic elevator systems, gearboxes, motors, brakes, ropes, and door mechanisms.
• Strong working knowledge of electrical and electronic systems: control panels, PLCs, VVVF drives, wiring, and safety circuits.
• Familiarity with major elevator brands/technologies (e.g., Otis, KONE, Schindler, Mitsubishi, Fujitec, or similar) is an advantage.
• Sound understanding of elevator safety codes and standards (e.g., EN 81, ASME A17.1, or applicable Nigerian/local codes).
• Ability to read technical drawings, circuit diagrams, and manufacturer manuals.
• Valid relevant certifications/licenses where applicable.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently under pressure.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including emergency callouts.
• Valid driver's license.
