What they need
Join General Motors’ world-class development center in Munich, where we design advanced high-resolution imaging radar sensors that power Personal Autonomous Vehicles (PAVs).
Our distinctive approach combines sensor innovation with direct vehicle integration, enabling close collaboration with global teams such as Perception. This integrated model delivers a seamless user experience while upholding the highest standards of safety.
The radar systems developed in Munich play a critical role in our mission to harness self-driving technology to save lives, transform urban mobility, redefine travel time, and expand freedom of movement.
If you’re driven to tackle complex engineering challenges, see your work deployed in real-world autonomous vehicles, and contribute to meaningful change on a global scale, we invite you to join us.
About the role / Über die Rolle
You will join the Embedded Signal Processing (Embedded Systems) team in Munich and work on high-performance signal-processing pipelines for radar processing.
You turn radar algorithms into efficient, reliable production code on embedded compute platforms such as NVIDIA SoCs and AMD Versal. The work spans algorithm implementation, performance optimization, hardware integration, and validation. You will be working closely with radar-algorithm, software, and systems engineers to take components from design through bring-up and testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Own DSP components from architecture and implementation through integration, performance validation, and production readiness.
- Profile code on target hardware and improve latency, throughput, and memory usage.
- Implement and tune vectorized or accelerator-based kernels; leverage NVIDIA architectures where they provide a clear benefit.
- Work with radar-algorithm, software, and integration teams to debug issues on hardware and support platform bring-up and verification..
- Build and maintain unit tests, integration tests, test vectors, and analysis scripts.
- Document interfaces and data flows for your components.
Qualifications
- Masters Degree or similar in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Communications Engineering or a related field with focus on digital signal processing or embedded systems.
- Strong C/C++ programming skills in embedded or real-time environments, including debugging on target hardware.
- Solid understanding of core DSP concepts (e.g. Fourier transforms, windowing, digital filters, sampling theory, basic beamforming).
- Hands-on experience developing or optimizing code on at least one embedded, DSP or accelerator platform (e.g. DSPs, SoCs, VLIW/SIMD processors or GPUs).
- Familiarity with standard software engineering practices and applications: version control, code reviews, testing, basic CI, Jira.
- Experience with MATLAB or Python for algorithm prototyping, offline analysis, and regression tooling.
- Good communication skills in English; You should be able to work effectively in a cross-functional, international team.
Nice to Have
- Experience with radar or other real-time sensor pipelines (e.g. range–Doppler processing, CFAR-style detector, 2D beamforming).
- Demonstrated ability to optimize vectorized / accelerator code beyond basics (e.g. tiling, memory-hierarchy aware layouts, overlap of compute and transfers, use of profiling tools).
- Practical experience with GPU programming for numerical workloads (e.g. CUDA kernels, stream concurrency, basic occupancy tuning).
- Experience developing on Linux-based systems (build systems, scripting, basic performance and memory-profiling tools).
- Background in automotive, safety-critical real-time systems.
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location on a minimum of 3 days per week.
