Embedded Linux Engineer - Fractional

The Key Details:

• £55-65 p/h
• Duration – 3 months contract (2 days per week expected commitment)
• Outside IR35
• Start date - ASAP
• Location - Remote

The Business:

An ambitious start up, with the aim of getting product to market in Q1 2027.

The product has demand, with significant pre order but the firmware needs an owner.

Building a connected camera for people at home with on-device detection and clear video, day and night.

The industrial design is by a renowned design studio, and the product is closing EVT on its way to tooling.

What you'll need

• You’ve shipped at least one embedded Linux product from board bring-up to production, on an application-class SoC such as ARM Cortex-A, not microcontrollers alone.
• Proven experience of low-power work on Linux, with suspend-to-RAM, wake sources and runtime power management you have debugged and measured yourself.
• Hands-on experience of OTA updates on shipped devices, with A/B partitions or a similar safe rollback scheme, or Wi-Fi and BLE on connected consumer products.

What this isn’t – PLEASE READ

This isn’t a full-time contract, and the length isn’t fixed yet.

It isn’t a greenfield design either: you’ll inherit a partner’s platform mid-flight and make it yours.

There’s no firmware team around you, it’s you and the CTO, and the founders are deliberately building a small, calm company.

If you like owning the hard parts of a product and getting it to customers, that’s the point.
