This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to Australian technology that is deployed globally across mission-critical industrial and utility environments.

Reporting to the R&D General Manager, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining software for embedded Linux platforms, working across the full software development lifecycle from concept through deployment and support.

Key Responsibilities

 ·         Develop and maintain embedded software applications in C/C++ for Linux-based embedded systems.

·         Customize and maintain Yocto-based Linux distributions for target hardware platforms.

·         Develop, port, and maintain Linux kernel drivers and board support packages (BSPs).

·         Configure, customize, and optimize Linux kernels, device trees, and bootloader components.

·         Debug and troubleshoot software issues across user space, kernel space, and hardware interfaces using tools such as GDB, JTAG, KGDB, and system tracing utilities.

·         Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements, design robust solutions, and deliver high-quality software.

·         Optimize system performance, reliability, security, and maintainability for resource-constrained embedded environments.

·         Contribute to software architecture, code reviews, testing, continuous integration, and release activities.

·         Produce and maintain technical documentation throughout the development lifecycle.

What You’ll bring:

·         3+ years of experience developing Embedded C/C++ software for Linux-based systems.

·         Strong experience with Embedded Linux development and debugging.

·         Hands-on experience with the Yocto Project and BitBake build systems.

·         Experience developing or maintaining Linux kernel drivers and kernel modules.

·         Understanding of Linux kernel architecture, device trees, and boot processes.

·         Experience working with ARM-based embedded platforms.

·         Experience with cross-compilation toolchains and embedded development workflows.

·         Strong knowledge of software debugging techniques using GDB, JTAG, KGDB, and related tools.

·         Experience with IP networking concepts including TCP/IP, sockets, SSL/TLS, and network APIs.

·         Familiarity with hardware interfaces such as SPI, I²C, UART, CAN, GPIO, USB, and Ethernet.

·         Proficiency with Git and modern source control workflows.

·         Experience working throughout the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

·         Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·         A proactive, collaborative mindset with a passion for learning and continuous improvement.

·         Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.

Desirable Skills:

·         Experience with Yocto Linux kernel 5.x (5.10 or later).

·         Linux BSP bring-up and board porting experience.

·         Device driver development for networking or industrial communication hardware.

·         Experience with U-Boot, Buildroot, or other embedded Linux build systems.

·         Knowledge of IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, SCADA, or other industrial communication protocols.

·         Familiarity with cybersecurity principles for embedded and industrial control systems.

·         Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and build automation tools such as Jenkins.

·         Experience working within Agile/Scrum development environments.

What we offer:

·         A work environment where safety is always number one priority.

·         A permanent position working for NOJA Power.

·         A competitive salary reflective of your skills and experience.

·         Career development and opportunities to grow your knowledge.
