Senior Embedded Software Engineer

Location: San Francisco or New York preferred; exceptional remote candidates considered

The Opportunity:

We’re partnering with a fast-growing consumer health technology company building intelligent hardware used every day by customers around the world.

Their product combines embedded systems, sensors, software and data to understand what is happening in the physical world and react in real time. As the product and hardware platform continue to scale, they’re looking for a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to take significant ownership across the embedded stack.

This is a hands-on role for an engineer who enjoys working close to the hardware, solving difficult problems under real-world constraints, and owning products from early development through production.

What You’ll Do

• Design, build and maintain production embedded software in C/C++
• Develop firmware across bare-metal and RTOS-based systems
• Build and debug low-level drivers, peripherals and hardware interfaces
• Work within compute, memory, power and reliability constraints
• Own technical decisions across architecture, implementation, testing and deployment
• Debug complex hardware/software issues using both software and hardware tools
• Build tooling and automation using languages such as Python or Node.js
• Improve firmware testing, CI/CD and release processes
• Partner closely with electrical, mechanical, mobile and backend engineers
• Work directly with manufacturing partners to take products from development into production
• Help shape engineering standards and technical direction as the hardware platform grows

What We’re Looking For

• Strong professional experience building embedded software or firmware
• Deep hands-on experience with C and/or C++
• Strong understanding of bare-metal development and/or RTOS environments
• Experience working with resource-constrained embedded systems
• Experience developing or debugging peripheral drivers and hardware interfaces
• Strong debugging skills across the hardware/software boundary
• Experience shipping a physical product into production
• Comfortable taking ownership without needing heavily defined requirements or processes
• Clear communicator who can explain technical decisions, trade-offs and failures
• Comfortable operating in a fast-moving, high-ownership engineering environment

Particularly Relevant Backgrounds

Experience building connected or intelligent physical products is highly valuable, including:

• Consumer electronics
• Wearables
• Medical devices
• Health technology
• IoT / connected devices
• Robotics
• Smart home products

Experience with BLE, embedded Linux, device security, manufacturing, firmware update systems, test automation or hardware bring-up would also be valuable.
