What they need
Oratek, an engineering company based in Ecublens (Switzerland), is seeking a skilled and autonomous Embedded Software Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team.
Founded in 2018, Oratek delivers precision equipment and engineering services to demanding industries where reliability, performance and attention to detail are non-negotiable. Our products combine fine mechanics, electronics, optics and software — and the firmware running inside them is often what makes the difference between a good machine and an outstanding one.
As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will design, develop and maintain firmware running on microcontrollers and embedded Linux platforms across our product range. You'll own complete embedded projects — from architecture to deployment — and work closely with our electronics, mechanical and software engineers to deliver robust, secure and efficient systems.
If you enjoy working close to the hardware, take pride in clean and reliable embedded code, and want to see your work running inside real industrial machines, we'd like to hear from you.
Design, develop and maintain firmware on microcontroller platforms (primarily STM32, also ESP32, RP2040) in C/C++.
Develop applications and firmware in Python / MicroPython where appropriate.
Develop software running on embedded microprocessor platforms (Raspberry Pi Compute Module, ARM-based SoCs).
Implement and integrate wireless communication stacks: WiFi, BLE, LoRa, and other relevant protocols.
Architect and implement data flows and storage: efficient acquisition, buffering, transmission, and persistence on resource-constrained devices.
Apply data optimization and compression techniques where bandwidth, storage or power matter.
Implement security best practices at the embedded level: secure boot, encrypted communication, secure storage, firmware update mechanisms.
Read and review electrical schematics; provide feedback on PCB component placement and routing from a firmware/integration perspective.
(Optional / nice to have) Contribute to electronic design — schematic capture, basic PCB work — alongside our electronics team.
Own complete embedded projects: requirements, architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and documentation.
Collaborate with electronics, mechanical and software engineers to integrate firmware into complete machines.
Establish and maintain build systems, version control practices, CI/CD and testing strategies for embedded code.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Embedded Systems, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum 4 years of professional experience in embedded software development.
Strong proficiency in C/C++ for embedded targets.
Working knowledge of Python / MicroPython.
Hands-on experience with STM32 (HAL, LL, CubeIDE / CubeMX, or bare-metal); experience with ESP32 (ESP-IDF or Arduino) and RP2040 is a plus.
Experience with wireless communication stacks: WiFi, BLE, LoRa, or similar.
Experience developing software for embedded microprocessor platforms (Raspberry Pi Compute Module, ARM-based SoCs running Linux).
Solid understanding of data flows and storage on embedded systems, including optimization, compression and security.
Ability to read electrical schematics and review PCB layouts from a firmware/integration standpoint.
(Nice to have) Basic electronic design skills (schematic capture, PCB).
Demonstrated ability to own complete embedded projects from requirements to deployment.
Autonomy, rigor, and a cross-disciplinary mindset — comfortable working with electronics and mechanical engineers.
Working proficiency in French and English.
100% on site in Ecublens (VD).
A stimulating and innovative work environment.
Opportunities for professional development and continuous training.
Competitive salary and attractive social benefits.
Opportunity to work on diverse and exciting projects.
Access to cutting-edge technologies and advanced technical resources.
A collaborative and dedicated team.
Join Oratek as an Embedded Software Engineer and collaborate with a visionary, multidisciplinary team in Switzerland. Build the firmware that powers real industrial machines — from microcontroller to microprocessor — for clients in precision industries that demand the highest standards, in a dynamic, small-company environment.
