What they need

Job highlights

  • Qualifications: . Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering,Computer Engineering,Aerospace Engineering,or a related field
  • Experience with firmware development tools and methodologies specific to STM32 microcontrollers (e.g.,STM32CubeMX,STLink debuggers)
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience leading and developing embedded systems for safety-critical applications

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of embedded systems engineers in the design, development, testing, and deployment of flight-critical software for UAVs, including firmware for all relevant hardware.
  • Define system requirements, design architecture, and lead the development process for reliable and safety-critical embedded systems, encompassing both flight control and motor control functionalities.
  • Implement robust and efficient firmware for STM32 microcontrollers, ensuring real-time performance and optimization for resource-constrained environments, specifically for ESC applications.
  • Drive the implementation of advanced algorithms for tasks like sensor fusion, motor control (FOC - Field-Oriented Control, BLDC - Brushless DC motor control), and flight control logic.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers to ensure seamless integration of software and hardware components within the UAV system, including ESC hardware design.
  • Oversee rigorous testing methodologies, including unit testing, integration testing, hardware-in-the-the-loop (HIL) simulations, and motor test bench validation, to guarantee high reliability and safety standards for both flight control and ESC functionalities.
  • Champion the adoption of defensive programming practices, continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, and other best practices for high-reliability software development.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in embedded systems technology, UAV flight control systems, relevant safety standards (DO-178C, DO-254), and ESC development practices.
  • Clearly communicate technical concepts and project progress to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Foster a collaborative and results-oriented work environment within your team, empowering engineers to excel.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience leading and developing embedded systems for safety-critical applications.
  • Proven experience in programming 16/32 bit microcontrollers (STM32 experience highly desirable).
  • In-depth understanding of timers, interrupts, memory devices, ADC/DAC, bootloaders, and communication protocols (I2C, UART, SPI, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of operating system fundamentals, including schedulers, file systems, and memory management.
  • Experience with defensive programming techniques, continuous testing methodologies, and high-reliability software development practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.

Desired Skills:

  • Proven experience working with STMicroelectronics (ST) and Texas Instruments (TI) microcontrollers, particularly STM32 families.
  • Solid understanding of basic concepts of Digital Signal Processing (DSP) for sensor data processing, control algorithms, and motor control techniques (FOC, BLDC).
  • Familiarity with electronic components and hardware design principles relevant to ESCs, including comfort with reading circuit schematics.
  • Experience with hardware debugging tools like oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers (SPI, CAN, Ethernet).
  • Experience with firmware development tools and methodologies specific to STM32 microcontrollers (e.g., STM32CubeMX, STLink debuggers).
  • Knowledge of UAV flight control systems and relevant flight control algorithms (e.g., PID control, Kalman filtering).
  • Experience with motor driver circuits and power electronics principles used in ESC design.
  • Understanding of motor control theory and ability to implement efficient motor control algorithms in firmware.
  • Familiarity with motor testing methodologies and tools used for ESC validation.
