Prestige Motorsports — Concord, NC (Engine Shop)
Employment type: Full-time, hourly (non-exempt)
Reports to: Production Manager, Engine Shop
Schedule: On-site, Monday–Friday

$20–$27 per hour, depending on experience and mechanical background. Entry-level candidates with a technical foundation start at the lower end with a defined path upward.
What This Job Actually Is
When a customer buys a custom engine from us, you are the last person who touches it before they do.
That's the whole job, and it's why it matters. By the time a build reaches you, someone has spent weeks on it and a customer has paid tens of thousands of dollars for it. Your work is the final verification that what's in the crate is correct, complete, and going to arrive the way it left.
The role has two halves. The technical half is measurement and assembly: performing critical measurements on engine and transmission mockups before crating, confirming fitment and clearances, installing ancillary components to the customer's spec, and documenting what you found. The physical half is preparation and packaging: detailing the engine to finished-product standard, building the crate, bracing the unit for freight, and loading it out.
The part people underestimate is the sign-off. You confirm every item on the customer order is packed; engine, components, accessories, documentation, and you sign the packing slip saying so. If something is wrong and it ships, that's a customer opening a crate and finding a problem. We would much rather you stop the process and raise a flag.
What You'll Be Responsible For
Measurement and verification. Perform critical measurements on engine and transmission mockups prior to crating. Verify fitment and clearances against build documentation. Document results, and escalate anything out of spec rather than working around it.
Final preparation. Clean and detail completed engines to finished-product standard. This is a customer's first impression of a build they've been waiting on.
Assembly. Install ancillary components to customer order specification.
Order verification. Confirm the full customer order is accounted for and packed. Sign off on the packing slip verifying completeness.
Crating. Build and prepare crates. Secure and brace units to survive LTL freight transit, including the handling you don't get to see.
Shipment readiness. Notify the AR associate when a crate is complete and staged. Units release only after final customer payment; freight scheduling, BOLs, and customer tracking communication are handled by AR, not by this role.
Load-out. Load completed crates onto freight trucks at pickup using forklift and hoist.
Area upkeep. Keep the crating area clean and organized, and monitor crating material stock levels so you're not out of lumber on a ship day.
What Success Looks Like
In 90 days, you can take a completed build through measurement, prep, verification, and crating without someone checking behind you. You know our documentation and where the spec numbers come from.
In six months, your crates arrive intact and your orders arrive complete — no missing accessories, no transit damage claims. You've caught at least one thing before it shipped, because that's what the checkpoint is for.
In a year, the Production Manager treats your sign-off as final. You've improved something about how we crate, bracing method, material, staging flow, because you're the one who sees what works.
What Makes This Job Hard

The shop is not air conditioned. North Carolina summers are real. This is honest work in a real shop environment.

Lifting is part of the job. Roughly 50–80 lbs regularly, with hoist, forklift, or a second person for anything heavier. Standing, bending, kneeling, and working around engines all shift.

Precision under time pressure. Builds finish on a schedule and customers are waiting. The pressure to move a unit along is real, and the job is measuring correctly anyway.

Pace is uneven. Units don't release until final payment clears, so completed crates sometimes stage and wait. Some weeks are heavy load-out weeks; some are build-prep weeks.

The responsibility is genuine. You are the quality gate. That's satisfying if you want ownership, and uncomfortable if you don't.

What You Need

Mechanical and technical knowledge of engines and transmissions, able to identify components, read spec sheets and build documentation, and take accurate measurements.

Proficiency with hand tools and precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators).

Comfort working from written specifications and documenting results.

Ability to lift approximately 50–80 lbs and work a full shift in a non-climate-controlled shop.

Preferred: Automotive technician, engine assembly, or performance/motorsports shop background. Familiarity with LTL freight, crating, blocking and bracing, load-out practices. Forklift and engine hoist experience (we will train and certify the right person).
Entry-Level Candidates
We will consider a candidate without shop experience who has a genuine mechanical foundation, automotive technology coursework, a technical school program, or equivalent hands-on background. What we cannot train quickly is mechanical aptitude and the instinct to double-check. If you have that, tell us where it came from.
Before You Apply
Apply if you take pride in a job being right rather than done, you're comfortable being accountable for the final check, and physical shop work suits you.
Don't apply if you're looking for a straight packing or warehouse job. The crating is the easy half, the measurement, verification, and judgment are the reason the role exists.
