Job Title: Engine Design Engineer

Function: R&D – Powertrain / Engine Engineering

Experience: 5–10 years

Location: Chennai

Education: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical / Automobile Engineering

Role Purpose,

Responsible for the design, development and engineering of engine components and systems, ensuring performance, reliability, manufacturability and compliance with applicable standards.

Key Responsibilities,

• Design and development of engine components such as cylinder head, cylinder block, crankshaft, connecting rod, piston, timing system, lubrication and cooling systems.
• Prepare 3D models, 2D drawings, GD&T and engineering specifications.
• Perform design calculations, tolerance stack-up and basic engineering analysis.
• Work closely with CAE, testing, manufacturing, quality, sourcing and suppliers.
• Support DFMEA, design reviews, validation and verification activities.
• Analyse field failures and implement design improvements.
• Ensure designs meet cost, weight, performance, durability and reliability targets.
• Support prototype development, testing and productionisation.
• Manage engineering changes through appropriate ECR/ECN processes.
• Coordinate with suppliers for component development and technical issues.
• Ensure compliance with relevant emission, safety and regulatory requirements.
• Technical Skills
• Strong knowledge of IC engines / diesel / petrol engines.
• Engine component design and development.
• Proficiency in CATIA / Creo / UG-NX.
• Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis and DFM/DFA.
• Understanding of FEA/CAE and engine testing.
• Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes and metallurgy.
• Good understanding of NVH, thermal management, lubrication and combustion fundamentals
