Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa. Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located 40km from the site offering leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

Job description:

Your Contribution

As a Engineer, Backfill, you'll establish and implement the Backfill Management Plan and Backfill Standards to support safe, timely and optimised backfill delivery across the operation. You'll provide technical expertise in backfill design, planning, quality control and infrastructure while supporting continuous improvement across mining activities.

Profile description:

As Part of Our Team, You Will

• Provide technical backfill advice across Technical Services, Mining Operations, Surface Operations and Maintenance.
• Develop safe and timely backfill designs for paste, co-disposal and rockfill stopes, including numerical and hydraulic modelling and executable design packages.
• Prepare backfill work instructions and monitor fill designs, plant operating trends and laboratory data to maintain quality and design compliance.
• Inspect underground paste infrastructure and contribute backfill requirements to short-, medium- and long-term mine planning.
• Support backfill projects, coordinate contractors, identify improvement opportunities and mentor team members.

Prerequisites for Success in This Role

• A degree in Mining, Geotechnical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering, Geology, or a related discipline.
• Underground mining experience, preferably including exposure to underground backfill.
• Proficiency with Deswik or other computer-aided design software.
• Numerical modelling and hydraulic simulation capability using FLAC3D, Pumpsim or similar software will be highly regarded.
• Skills in Microsoft Office, SAP and related software, together with full and unrestricted eligibility to work in Australia.
