Engineer: Design and Estimation

Job Purpose

To support project design, pre-sales and technical coordination, heat load calculations, BOQ preparation, cost estimation and tendering for commercial, pharmaceutical and industrial projects. The role works with clients, consultants, vendors and internal teams to develop technically sound and commercially competitive project proposals, while maintaining current knowledge of MEP engineering.

Role & Responsibilities

1. Project Design and Planning

• Design and support design activities for commercial, pharmaceutical and industrial projects.
• Perform heat load calculations to determine project requirements.
• Review and interpret technical drawings, specifications and project documentation.
• Coordinate with clients and consultants to understand project specifications and site conditions.

2. Pre-Sales and Customer Technical Support

• Conduct pre-sales site visits to assess project requirements, site conditions and potential challenges.
• Provide technical assistance to customers regarding product features, specifications and applications.
• Participate in technical sales meetings and address customer queries and concerns.

3. BOQ Preparation and Cost Estimation

• Prepare detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQs) based on drawings and client requirements.
• Conduct quantity take-offs and estimate project costs, considering materials, labour and overheads.
• Review project scope changes and assess their impact on cost.
• Support accurate and timely preparation of estimates and commercial submissions.

4. Tendering and Sales/Marketing Support

• Participate in tendering activities and ensure estimates align with project specifications and tender requirements.
• Provide technical support for pre-bid, post-bid and negotiation meetings.
• Assist senior sales and marketing teams with technical inputs and, where required, identifying potential clients and supporting lead-generation activities.

5. Coordination and Collaboration

• Coordinate with clients, consultants, vendors, marketing, execution and purchase teams throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure effective communication, timely clarification of technical issues and completion of assigned tasks.
• Collaborate with team members and provide guidance or support to junior engineers where required.

6. Vendor Management and Negotiation

• Develop and maintain vendor relationships for technical and commercial matters.
• Discuss and negotiate technical and commercial terms with vendors to obtain competitive pricing and suitable project terms.
• Coordinate with vendors to clarify specifications and support procurement-related requirements.

7. Technical Expertise and Continuous Learning

• Stay updated on MEP engineering trends, technologies and relevant practices.
• Continuously enhance knowledge of project design, estimation, tendering and execution requirements.
• Apply problem-solving and project-management principles to improve work quality and delivery.

Qualifications and ExperienceEducational Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

Experience

• Minimum 4–5 years of experience in project engineering, design and estimation, or relevant technical sales/pre-sales engineering roles.
• Experience in project design, cost estimation and tendering.
• Experience with commercial, pharmaceutical or industrial projects is preferred.
• Experience in vendor negotiation and client interaction is desirable.

Pay: ₹600,000.00 - ₹700,000.00 per year
