About Gold Fields

At Gold Fields, we believe great leadership is grounded in empathy, respect, and growth. Join Gold Fields and be part of a company where people, passion, and purpose come together to create enduring value — beyond mining.

Join an organisation endorsed by WORK180 for our commitment to creating an environment where inclusion and belonging matter, and you can build meaningful, long-term careers in mining, with fabulous mentors to guide you through from day one.

We recognise that everyone's circumstances are unique. We're always open to conversations about flexible working arrangements that can help you balance work, family, and life.

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you'll provide qualified geotechnical support that helps achieve budgeted development and production targets — all while upholding the highest standards of safety, cost and environmental performance.

You will contribute to, collect and analyse geotechnical information and support the development of capability across the Geotechnical team at Gruyere Gold Mine, located in the Yamarna Greenstone Belt of Western Australia. Commissioned in 2019, Gruyere is one of Australia's largest and lowest-cost gold operations, producing 300,000+ ounces per annum with a production profile of more than 10 years.

This is an opportunity to work in a dynamic open pit environment where your technical expertise will directly support safe and efficient mining operations.

What You'll Do

  • Provide a geotechnical service to the mine, working with business partners to ensure full statutory compliance with mining regulations, legislation and company safety objectives relating to ground control
  • Undertake pit wall inspections, mapping, ground control and geotechnical sign-offs.
  • Complete structural and kinematic assessments of pit walls.
  • Assist with slope stability assessments and geotechnical design reviews.
  • Monitor and assess slope movement using radar, prisms, survey, UAV and other monitoring systems.
  • Collect and analyse geotechnical data, including the investigation and analysis of rockfall events and ground control issues, and prepare technical memorandums, reports and recommendations.
  • Undertake daily production tasks including mine plans, drill and blast plans, survey instructions, inspection documentation, data collection, monitoring, analysis and QAQC.
  • Actively identify and manage geotechnical risks and develop systems to monitor and manage them.
  • Compile and issue QAQC, hazard maps and monitoring reports as required.
  • Work collaboratively with Mining, Drill & Blast, Survey, Geology and other Technical Services teams
  • Role model our core values and create a culture where every team member feels seen, supported, and valued

What You'll Bring

  • Completed bachelor's degree in Geotechnics, Mining Engineering or Geological Engineering
  • Demonstrated geotechnical engineering experience, ideally in an open cut mining environment, preferably hard-rock mining.
  • Experience with geotechnical data collection, mapping and monitoring.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with the Rocscience suite, Leapfrog, Deswik and Maptek software.
  • Working knowledge of the Mines Safety and Inspection Act & Regulations
  • AusIMM membership (CP preferred), and a valid driver's licence
  • Valid, manual drivers licence.
