About Us
Wallis Drilling provides a diverse range of drilling services for exploration and mining projects. But we do more than just operate drill rigs: we manufacture them. We take pride in building some of the most innovative semi-autonomous drill rigs and support equipment in the industry.
What you’ll do:
We’re looking for a Mechatronics Engineer to join our engineering group at our Hazelmere facility designing and manufacturing bespoke drilling equipment for our contract drilling business.
This diverse role requires a combination of design and hands-on practical skills and you would work with PLCs, HMI’s and various sensors along with embedded computers running linux, networking equipment, IP cameras, and Starlink.
Our drill rigs operate in harsh environments, so all assemblies must be built to high standards of ingress protection, vibration resistance and general robustness.
You will be working alongside a group of mechanical and mechatronics engineers as well the software engineers to design the drill rigs and support equipment. You will also be providing technical support to the manufacturing team, and the contracting business when the equipment reaches the field.
Responsibilities:
PLC programming
Graphical work and programming for HMI displays
Wiring harness design and drawings
Design electrical enclosure layouts and mounting fixtures
System-level design including researching and selecting components
Provisioning, testing and troubleshooting systems after installation
Wiring of electrical assemblies
Most of the work will be based in our Hazelmere facility, but you may be required to travel to mining sites in the Pilbara and across Australia for installations or troubleshooting
Must-Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechatronics
- Experience with PLCs and HMI displays
- Knowledge of CAN bus and CANOpen
- Well-rounded blend of theory and practical skills
- Experience with 3D modelling and drafting in CAD packages like Autodesk Inventor and Autocad
- Be flexible and willing to undertake a wide variety of engineering tasks
Nice-To-Have:
- Familiarity with wiring practices used in the auto-electrical industry
- Experience with Codesys v2.3 and v3.5, Sequential Function Chart (SFC), Structured Text (ST)
- Experience with Object-Oriented Programming, tuning PID feedback control loops
Candidates with at least a couple of years of industry experience in a similar role are preferred. Engineering graduates will also be considered if they are highly motivated and can demonstrate projects involving the integration of electronic systems.
