What they need

The Company

Civmec is an Australian-owned, integrated, multidisciplinary heavy engineering and construction services provider to the energy, resources, infrastructure, marine and defence sectors. Our diversification enables us to operate extensively across the nation, supporting a wide range of landmark projects and providing variety and career development opportunities for our workforce.

Join the Civmec Team

Civmec is proud to be partnering with Iluka on the delivery of the SMPE&I package for the Iluka Rare Earths Refinery, one of Australia's most significant critical minerals projects. This landmark development will establish the country's first fully integrated rare earths refinery and involves the delivery of large-scale structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation works within a complex processing environment.

We're seeking experienced and career-driven Project Engineers to join our SMPE&I team. This is an opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of a major construction project while working alongside experienced industry professionals in a fast-paced project environment.

This position is based at the Iluka Rare Earths Refinery in Eneabba, approximately 274 km north of Perth, Western Australia. We offer a 2:1 DIDO roster, with all transport to and from site provided from Perth Airport.

The Role

Working closely with Engineering Manager and site teams, you will help coordinate and deliver project activities, support construction works, and ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and to the required quality standards. You will play a key role in planning, tracking progress, managing subcontractors, and contributing to the successful delivery of major project milestones.

  • Align SMP construction activities with project schedules and specifications
  • Liaising with key stakeholders to resolve technical queries and ensure alignment
  • Providing detailed reporting to monitor progress
  • Manage technical deviation requests and maintain the technical query register
  • Maintain compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards across all works
  • Conduct inspections to verify quality and readiness for testing and commissioning
  • Identify and mitigate risk and non-conformances through proactive problem-solving
  • Assist with material take-offs, procurement tracking, and delivery coordination
  • Participate in pre-starts, toolbox talks, and safety reviews to promote a strong safety culture
  • Collaborating with planning and commercial teams to support forecasting, cost control, and change management.

About You

When you join Civmec and become part of this exciting, sustainability‑driven construction project, you'll bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Proven experience delivering SMP (Structural, Mechanical & Piping) scopes on major construction projects
  • Strong technical knowledge across piping systems, steel structures, mechanical equipment installation, and modern construction methodologies
  • Proficiency in MS Office and engineering software such as AutoCAD, Navisworks, or similar tools.
