Engineering Coordinator (Milk Procurement)

Role Purpose

• The primary purpose of the Engineering Coordinator - Milk Procurement Services role is to ensure that all milk sourcing assets, including milk chilling and associated facilities at Milk Collection & Chilling Centers (MCCs) located in distributed geographies and other milk procurement locations, are maintained in a state of continuous operational readiness.
• The role is responsible for supporting the efficient acceptance, testing, cooling, storage, and handling of raw milk, ensuring the preservation of milk quality and compliance with Lactalis Lanka's quality, safety, and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure the operational readiness and reliability of milk chilling, refrigeration, utility, and related assets across MCCs and other milk procurement facilities located in multiple geographies and regions.
• Plan and execute preventive maintenance activities to minimize downtime and ensure uninterrupted operations.
• Coordinate the timely resolution of equipment breakdowns, maintenance issues, and technical gaps identified by MCC and Supplier Relations teams.
• Manage contractors and service providers to ensure work is completed safely, on time, and to the required quality standards.
• Coordinate the procurement of engineering materials, spare parts, and services in line with company procurement procedures.
• Monitor maintenance costs, maintain relevant records, and support continuous improvement of engineering assets and facilities.

Key Requirements

• This position requires a valid diploma equivalent to NVQ 5 or above awarded by a recognized local/foreign institute in the areas of Mechanical or Electrical engineering with Refrigeration as a subject.
• Minimum 3 years of post-qualification experience in refrigeration or milk chilling systems, engineering maintenance, asset management, or technical operations, preferably within the dairy, food processing, or related manufacturing sectors.
• Sound technical knowledge of refrigeration and milk chilling systems, maintenance planning, engineering quotations, BOQ preparation and evaluation, contractor management, and assessment of service quality and cost-effectiveness.
• Success in this role requires strong planning, coordination, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders effectively. The role demands a high level of accountability, flexibility, and willingness to undertake diverse responsibilities and travel extensively to support efficient and uninterrupted MCC operations, while maintaining a strong focus on safety, cost consciousness, and service quality.
