Our approach brings planning, analysis, and design together in stewardship of the built and natural environments. We deliver practical results that address pressing environmental and water infrastructure challenges. From designing water, wastewater, or stormwater systems to evaluating, permitting, and restoring sensitive habitats, our services support sustainable development and resilient infrastructure.

The Water/Wastewater Infrastructure Practice is seeking an Engineering Designer in Salt Lake City, UT, to support a major, multi-year transportation improvement program in Utah.

Working with experienced engineers, and project managers, this role will help advance utility-relocation design as a result of a major roadway widening project from engineering concepts through coordinated construction documents. The successful candidate will use OpenRoads Designer as a core production and design platform in a fast-paced design-build environment.

This position is expected to support a major design build transportation project with an anticipated duration of approximately 1-2 years. This role provides a unique opportunity to contribute to a high-profile design-build effort with significant public impact. Continued employment beyond the project will be based on business needs and available work.

What You’ll Do

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop design deliverables using OpenRoads Designer and MicroStation, including civil models and coordinated plan sheets.
  • Review survey information, utility records, maps, reports, record drawings, test results, and other technical information needed to advance design.
  • Assist with utility identification, relocation design, and coordination with public agencies, utility owners, contractors, and internal technical disciplines.
  • Coordinate with roadway, structural, drainage, traffic, environmental, survey, and construction teams on multidisciplinary design packages.
  • Work within established project standards, delivery requirements, budgets, and accelerated milestone schedules.
  • Communicate design issues and progress clearly to task leads and project managers.

What You Bring

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering field.
  • 1+ Years of experience with OpenRoads Designer.
  • 0-3 years of professional engineering or related experience.
  • Working knowledge of civil engineering fundamentals and the ability to interpret plans, survey data, and technical information.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organized, detail-oriented approach and the ability to work effectively with multiple disciplines.
  • Ability to manage priorities and deliver quality work in a schedule-driven environment.
