Engineering Head

About the role

San Miguel Foods is seeking an Engineering Head to lead and oversee all engineering operations and technical initiatives across our manufacturing and production facilities. This is a full-time position based in Calamba City, Laguna, where you will play a pivotal role in driving operational excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement throughout our engineering department. As Engineering Head, you will be responsible for strategic planning, technical leadership, and ensuring our facilities operate at peak efficiency whilst maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.

What you'll be doing

• Leading and managing the engineering team, including recruitment, training, performance management and professional development of engineering staff
• Overseeing the design, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment and production systems
• Developing and implementing engineering strategies and policies that align with company objectives and industry best practices
• Managing capital projects from conception through execution, including budgeting, scheduling and resource allocation
• Ensuring compliance with all relevant safety regulations, environmental standards and quality requirements across all engineering operations
• Conducting regular equipment audits and implementing preventive maintenance programmes to maximise uptime and minimise operational disruptions
• Collaborating with production, quality and operations teams to optimise manufacturing processes and enhance productivity
• Identifying opportunities for process improvements, automation and cost reduction initiatives
• Preparing technical reports, performance metrics and engineering documentation for senior management
• Managing engineering budgets and controlling expenditure whilst maintaining operational effectiveness

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from a recognised institution
• Minimum 10 years of professional engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or leadership role within manufacturing or food production environments
• Proven expertise in equipment design, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting across production facilities
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems and electrical integration
• Experience with manufacturing execution systems (MES), computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS) and process automation technologies
• Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and develop engineering teams in a collaborative environment
• Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
• Strong understanding of health and safety regulations, environmental compliance and quality management systems
• Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software and other engineering tools
• Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills with a strategic mindset
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with diverse stakeholders
• Preferred: Professional engineering licensure or certification; experience in the food manufacturing or food processing industry; familiarity with Six Sigma or continuous improvement methodologies
