SPM sources top-quality, sustainable, grass-fed, New Zealand Lamb products from our network of farmer suppliers. We are 100% New Zealand-owned and operated and a proud member of the Talley’s Group; New Zealand’s leading exporter of meat, dairy, seafood, and vegetable products.

Job Description

SPM Malvern is seeking an experienced Engineering Maintenance Planner to support the smooth and safe operation of our Awarua plant. This is a key role within the Engineering Department, responsible for planning, coordinating, and administering all maintenance and engineering activities in a timely and cost‑effective manner.

Working closely with the Engineering Manager, Trades 2IC, plant trades teams, and external contractors, you will play a critical role in ensuring maintenance work is well planned, resources are available, and compliance and safety standards are consistently met.

In this role, you will be responsible for maintenance planning across engineering, electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration functions. You will manage the CMMS (MEX), coordinate contractors, oversee inventories, raise and reconcile purchase orders and invoices, and support both day‑to‑day maintenance and planned shutdowns.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan and schedule all repairs and maintenance (R&M) activities, ensuring parts and resources are available
  • Oversee and manage the CMMS (MEX), including job creation, registers, and reporting
  • Coordinate external contractors, including compliance documentation and insurance details
  • Raise and manage all purchase orders for the engineering department
  • Reconcile invoices, packing slips, and purchase orders
  • Monitor and manage engineering inventory and stock levels
  • Support weekend, shutdown, and preventative maintenance planning
  • Maintain compliance and engineering registers
  • Provide regular updates and briefings to the Engineering Manager and key stakeholders
  • Support engineering projects and general engineering/trades administration
  • Provide leadership, coordination, and support to trades teams as required

Qualifications

You will be a structured and detail‑focused professional who enjoys working at the center of operations. You will be able to communicate confidently with a wide range of people and are comfortable balancing planning, administration, and coordination in a busy industrial environment.

You will ideally bring:

  • A minimum Level 4 engineering or related qualification
  • 3+ years’ experience in maintenance planning or a similar engineering role
  • Hands‑on experience using CMMS software (MEX experience desirable)
  • Strong organisational, planning, and problem‑solving skills
  • A solid understanding of engineering principles and maintenance workflows
  • Experience or confidence in health and safety risk assessment and compliance
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to build strong working relationships
