We're working with an established infrastructure operator to find an Engineering Manager to lead engineering activities across a significant landfill operation in the Manawatū-Whanganui region.

This is a broad, practical engineering leadership role responsible for the planning, delivery and ongoing performance of the site's engineering function. Reporting to the GM - Operations, you'll lead engineering across Capital Works, Operational Engineering and Asset Management, overseeing major infrastructure projects, managing the site's engineering assets, and leading a small technical team.

You'll play an important role in ensuring the operation has the infrastructure and engineering capability to support its current requirements, as well as its continued growth and development for years to come.

You'll lead a multi-million-dollar capital works programme, delivering projects such as landfill cell development, earthworks, leachate and landfill gas systems, stormwater infrastructure, tipping walls and other civil works.

Working alongside engineering consultants, contractors and specialist suppliers, you'll oversee projects from planning through to construction and handover, ensuring quality, safety, programme and commercial outcomes.

You'll also manage operational engineering projects that support the efficient running of the landfill and take ownership of the site's engineering assets, developing maintenance and renewal programmes that ensure reliable long-term performance.

Leading a small technical team, you'll work collaboratively with operations staff, consultants and contractors to deliver engineering outcomes across the site.

Key responsibilities include:

• Capital budgeting and cost forecasting.
• Long-term engineering and infrastructure planning.
• Project programming and scheduling.
• Contractor and consultant management.
• Quality assurance and construction sequencing.
• Managing subcontractors and specialist suppliers.
• Monthly reporting on project progress, budgets, risks and asset performance.

We're looking for a practical, commercially minded engineer who enjoys delivering projects, building strong relationships and leading people.

Ideally, you'll have experience within a landfill, civil infrastructure or heavy industrial environment, along with a solid design engineering background that enables you to confidently review technical designs and work alongside external engineering consultants.

You may currently be working within an engineering consultancy, contractor or client-side environment and be ready to take the next step into a broader engineering leadership role.

You'll ideally bring:

• A Civil Engineering degree.
• Experience delivering landfill, civil infrastructure or heavy industrial projects.
• Design engineering experience and the ability to work collaboratively with engineering consultants.
• Strong project and contractor management experience.
• Experience coordinating consultants and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Sound commercial, budgeting and planning skills.
• A practical understanding of construction methodologies and heavy civil works.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• The ability to lead and develop a technical team.
