What they need
About the Role
We are recruiting an experienced Engineering Manager to join our post-tensioning (PT) business and lead our engineering function. This is a pivotal hire: the successful candidate will spend their first twelve months working closely alongside our outgoing Head of Engineering, absorbing deep institutional knowledge and building relationships across the business before fully taking the reins.
The role has a dual dimension. Locally, you will be the primary engineering authority for our customers — translating project requirements into precise solutions, guiding clients through complex design and construction challenges, and ensuring every deliverable meets the highest standards of quality and safety. Globally, you will work in close functional alignment with our Head of Technology in Europe, contributing to and drawing from group-wide engineering initiatives, product development programmes, and technical innovation efforts that benefit the entire organisation.
This is a senior position that demands both deep technical expertise and the ability to operate across boundaries — bridging local market needs with international engineering strategy.
Reporting & Functional Structure
You will report directly to the Managing Director for day-to-day operational and business matters. In parallel, you will maintain a close functional relationship with the Head of Technology Europe, who leads the group's global engineering and technology agenda. This dual structure means you will:
Represent local engineering needs and insights into the global technology roadmap.
Implement and adapt global product standards, engineering guidelines, and innovation outputs within your local operation.
Actively contribute to global engineering working groups, product development projects, and technical forums as required.
Ensure alignment between local engineering practices and group-wide technical policies and quality standards.
Key responsibilities
Customer & Project Engineering
Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customers, understanding their project requirements and providing expert PT engineering guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
Review client design drawings and contract documents; identify technical risks and provide clear, practical engineering recommendations.
Produce shop drawings and elongation calculations to exacting standards, ensuring compatibility with customer specifications and site conditions.
Prepare and review method statements for execution/operational works, coordinating with project managers and site teams for seamless execution.
Build long-term technical relationships with key customers, acting as a trusted engineering partner beyond individual project transactions.
Global Engineering & Product Development
Work in close collaboration with the Head of Technology Europe and the global engineering team to support the development, testing, and rollout of new system products and system improvements.
Contribute local market intelligence — customer feedback, site observations, performance data — to inform the group's product development and innovation pipeline.
Lead or participate in cross-regional engineering initiatives, including joint R&D projects, technical standardisation efforts, and global product improvement programmes.
Pilot and validate new products or engineering solutions in the local market, providing structured feedback and field performance data to the global team.
Ensure global engineering developments and product updates are effectively communicated, adopted, and embedded within the local engineering team.
Technical Leadership & Innovation
Lead the local engineering team, mentoring junior engineers and fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
Drive the development and improvement of system products, tools, jigs, and equipment — from concept through to manufacturing-ready drawings — in alignment with global standards.
Research and development of new technologies, materials, and methodologies, sharing findings with both the local business and the global Head of Technology function.
Own the company's local technical standards library, ensuring all product drawings and specifications remain current, accurate, and consistent with group guidelines.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
Oversee inspection and testing activities on installations, ensuring compliance with project specifications, industry codes, and safety regulations.
Plan and coordinate the calibration programme for all equipment, maintaining traceable records and certifications.
Champion a safety-first culture within the engineering function, proactively identifying and mitigating technical and operational risks.
Support group-wide quality and compliance initiatives led by the Head of Technology function, ensuring local practices meet or exceed global standards.
Operational Efficiency
Collaborate with operations, procurement, and the manufacturing team to ensure engineering designs are practical and cost-effective to deliver.
Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce waste, and enhance the overall efficiency of engineering outputs.
Support the tender and estimation process by providing technical input, material take-offs, and engineering cost assessments.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience in construction engineering, with significant exposure to post-tensioning works — ideally in a customer-facing or technical sales-support capacity.
Proven track record of producing shop drawings and elongation calculations for real projects.
Solid grounding in geotechnical and structural engineering principles as they apply to applications.
Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring an engineering team.
Experience working within or alongside a regional or global engineering function is a strong advantage — particularly in product development, technical standardisation, or cross-border project collaboration.
Technical Skills
Strong command of system design, including knowledge of prestress losses, anchorage zones, and duct/tendon layout.
Familiarity with PT equipment — stressing jacks, pumps, anchorage hardware — and their operational requirements.
Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD or equivalent) for shop drawing production.
Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards (e.g. Eurocode, BS, ACI, or equivalent depending on markets served).
Competent with MS Office and general engineering productivity tools.
Personal Qualities
Customer-centric mindset — you build trust quickly, communicate complex technical matters clearly to non-specialist audiences, and follow through on commitments.
Strong leadership presence with the ability to motivate and develop a local team while also contributing effectively within a wider international engineering community.
Excellent written and spoken English; additional languages are an advantage given our international project and group exposure.
Comfortable operating in a matrix structure — balancing local business priorities with global engineering commitments and deadlines.
Methodical and detail-oriented in documentation, yet pragmatic enough to keep projects moving.
Collaborative and adaptable — comfortable working across departments, cultures, time zones, and project environments.
Transition & Growth Opportunity
This role offers a rare and structured opportunity to step into a senior leadership position with confidence. Over the first twelve months you will shadow and work alongside our current Head of Engineering — gaining full exposure to our client relationships, internal processes, technical standards, and institutional knowledge before assuming full leadership responsibility. We are committed to making this transition successful for both the incoming manager and our business.
The functional connection to our Head of Technology in Europe opens an additional dimension of professional development: exposure to group-level strategy, international product programmes, and a network of engineering peers across the global organisation. For the right candidate, this is a long-term career opportunity to shape both the local engineering function and contribute meaningfully to the group's technical direction.
